I keep seeing this coming up in topics but don't have a clue as to what it is. I see there is a forum section for it but you need to be verified with a couple of steps involved. I understand what needs to be done to get into it. But what is it that you are getting? is it discounts or something? Seems like people are buying stuff from co-ops. what does it stand for?

It's a group buy organized by members. The goal is to purchase items directly from a manufacturer at deep discount.
Coops have issues you need to be aware of: Just because there is interest in an item or items that interest can fizzle and the purchase never gets off the ground. Coop buying takes time - some times months from expressed interest to the purchase being completed. You are at risk since this is a member to member transaction - you yourself aren't paying the manufacturer directly. (But ECF has done a good job at minimizing that risk.)
