I've absorbed quite a lot of information from this forum but I still don't get what people mean by a "mod". For me a mod means a custom modification such as cutting the wick of a clearo or widening wholes etc to get less air resistance. But I hear of people refering a pro vari and such as a mod and to me that just seems like it's just a new part.

So what is the definition of a mod? Whatever powers the highlighted keyword tooltips on this forum should include it.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'll avoid the term altogether as it's a bit misleading these days.

That's pretty much what I do. ;)
The same with analogs, I call them what they are. Cigs or cigarettes. I don't feel comfortable saying mod since, depending who I'm typing to, might have a different definition for the term. I chose either ecig or PV most times.

The term frustrated me for months. To many people use the term incorrectly. A "mod" is anything or pv that has been modified from it's original specs or use. Smok makes a device called a Bolt and many refer to that as a mod, but I can't understand how; the company made the device as is, so it has not been modified in any way. Also, some people with replace the factory wire inside of the bolt and replace it with heavier gauge wire and they reference that as a mod as well. Use your better judgment and don't blame others for being a little slow. Lol happy vaping!

Like everyone else said here, a mod is an ecig. THe term can be used loosely - some people call an ego a mod, some people don't. A while back ECF went on a silly campaign to call them "APVs" instead of mods, which hasn't really caught on in the rest of the vaping world. Most suppliers and vendors I still visit call them mods. I still, because everyone else I know is, call them mods. Besides, APV doesn't roll off of the tongue as well as mod.

Two flashlights + variable voltage regulator + switch+ 510 connector = mod

When only cigarette look-alikes existed, we "modded" higher capacity and higher voltage devices out of whatever could hold a couple of batteries and a switch. A number of people started making more robust devices commercially, and the term stuck. If you define mod as a higher capacity or higher voltage device, then eGos would qualify. I prefer to limit the term mod to larger devices with removable batteries.

I think the problem is that there is no good term for an eGo, or a Provari, ZMAX or VAMO for that matter. They are not mods in the truest sense, but calling them electronic cigarettes seems like quite an understatement. APV is actually a great idea, but it seems like we spend a lot of time telling people what it means.
