Looks like most of the top online dealers are closing out LG 18650 batteries. The prices are very low and show as clearance items. They have always received good ratings even though I haven't tried them. Any thoughts?

Since any use of LG Chem cells outside of a fully protected battery pack is unauthorized they are...umm...”encouraging” vendors to stop selling their cells.

I can think of two possibilities, LG made too many and wants to clear them out. Another possibility is they made a substandard batch. What I gather is making these kinds of batteries is part science and part art. I believe they are typically tested and graded and the best of the best go to the biggest customers and the rest...

Thanks for the responses folks. I called one of the online dealers that has been recommended by this forum. The dealer said that the LG HG2 (Brown) has been copied (cloned) (fake) more than any other battery. Supposedly LG has started limiting who they sell to. The fakes have caused a hit on original battery sales. I have some ordered from one of the above listed dealers.

This vendor claimed that their LG battery sales were affected because of so many fake HG2’s being around? I can see HG2 sales possibly being affected but not all LG battery sales.

AFAIK, LG doesn’t sell batteries directly to any vaping related company. I don’t think they would be able to meet the minimum order quantity either.

Perhaps I’m just out of touch regarding this situation. Could you pm me the name of the company you spoke to?

I sort of think given the flimsiness of the LG wraps, it COULD be reasonable. I have just..,,, In disgust I just rewrapped ALL of them, because I was so sick of it,.

I have returned to my beloved green Samsumgs they have a slightly shorter run time but they are less likely to Dead Short or Explode or whatever and I can LIVE with that.

I mean IDK if it's true the whole discouragement thing but I don't feel like I should have to rewarp a brand new battery.

It would be nice if we didn’t have to rewrap but the wraps were only designed to be durable enough to survive battery packaging after manufacture and the assembly of the batteries into packs. After that there’s nothing rubbing against them if the pack was designed well.

The issue is that mods are designed with that thickness of wrap in mind in terms of the internal enclosure. If we we use a thicker wrap chances are it will not fit into the device.

No loss as they are not very good batteries anyways. I am throwing out the LG batteries at a fast rate as they seem to just stop working. The last 6 or 7 times a battery just quit they were brown LG's. So often I quit buying that brand anyways. CHEERS!

You must be buying fakes. I've used the H2's for years and never had a failure.

What kind of Load are you putting on them?

Because I have some LG HG2's that have close to 300 Cycles on them. And them seem to perform about as they did when they were New.

But then again, I rarely draw more than 7 Amps from them. And charge them at 0.5 Amps.

I have some HG2 cells I use for both vape and flashlights and they perform well regardless...I'd put them right up there with 30Q - they are pretty solid performers and have lasted many cycles.

Edit: looks like LGs "safety ad" is all over my YouTube feed now. I don't necessarily think it's anti-consumer. They want to make money like everyone else, they just don't want to be sued. People will always use 18650 in mods...they know that, we know that.
