Hi all,

Let me just say first that I just joined this site this morning and the people on the forums are AWESOME. I can't believe all the responses I have gotten so far! You are all very helpful and patient with the newbies.

I have many many questions about vaping, but this steeping is a term I see mentioned and I'm wondering what exactly it entails...just let it sit in its original container and try it from time to time to see if it's changed? Or maybe put some in a clearo or some type of tank and let it sit out - is there sunlight, exposure to air, or heat involved?

It's a mystery to me!

Steeping is when you let the chemicals merge kinda. You place it in a dark and cool place for a few days and it will get darker in color and the flavor comes out. I have heard of people online having to do this with juice they buy online and it almost always seems to be clearish in color when they have to do this. When it is done it starts getting the darker rich brown colors.

I attempted to steep some juice today for the first time. I simmered a pot of water then turned the burner off and put a few glass bottles in the pan and let it sit for an hour. From what I understand that will greatly speed up the process. I then put them in a dark place and am planning on letting them sit a few weeks. I'm going to try them tomorrow and then try them weekly. I'm very confused about the process too. But from what I read, this is a good attempt.

Hey Bette!

Steeping is a misnomer I think and the term is confusing. When you order e-liquid somebody is just adding your flavoring and nic levels to a base liquid of PG/VG. Like wine, those flavor additives need time to mingle with the entire concoction. You'll come across various methods to "cheat" the aging process but honestly, the best method is to simply order well enough ahead and let them sit for 7-14 days in a cool, dark place with an occasional shake. :)

There are a bunch of ways to do it.

I pull the top off and let it sit for a day. Then put the top back on and shake well. Then throw them in my liquid drawer and let them sit there for a couple days to a couple weeks depending on the liquid. Some needs no steeping at all. Some needs a few days and even some require a few weeks.

Never understood this. Try doing that to a soda and see what it tastes like after a day. :)

Even alchohol-based liquids will lose that "bite" if you just let it age naturally. I dunno... maybe I just have more patience than most these days.

E-juice isn't carbonated...
Shake it up good then let the juice set with the top off for 6 - 8 hours so alcohol and stuff can evaporate off. Then let them steep for a few days with the cap on. Personally, I haven't noticed much of a difference from steeping so I don't worry much about it.

I make my own choc/hazelnut/tobacco/raspberry juice and since I am somewhat lazy, I make up 250ml at a time. I usually mix it up when I am on my last few bottles of the last batch. So, it steeps about 5 or more days. I have found the flavor get richer with time, but, not enough to make a big difference. The 250ml batch lasts me about 40 to 50 days. It costs me about $30 per batch. I do keep it in a cool dark place, and shake when I run across it. :p
