What is the benefit of a High-Resistance atomizer?

They are designed to be used at higher voltages as in user mods operating at 5v or 6v. They won't get hot enough at 3.7 to vaporize your liquid.

It's kind of like light bulbs for different voltages. The filament is lighter or heavier to match the load to battery voltage. A 3 cell bulb in a 5 cell flashlight will last about 5 seconds, but will burn really bright for those 5 seconds.

I've been using an HV atty w/ 4.5 Resistance on my Prodigy V2 (which runs at around 5 volts) for the past 2 months exclusively. Regular 510 attys and Cartos burn rather hot for me on the V2 and I was going through attys at a rate of 1 every 3 weeks. The HV atty provides tons of vapor and I'm really pleased with the flavor. I'm also using LR attys on my 3.7 V devices for the same reason.

I'm finding that I don't like my standard KR cartos on my fixed 5v passthrough. It burns too hot and kills flavor. I would be right to order HR atty/carto to cool it down to a more suitable level, right?

You're on the right track there. BTW, would you mind sharing what model PT you have and where you got it? I've had three and none have put out near the heat that a 3.7 batt does. I am using a 5V power supply that delivers 2 amps and still no love.

This PT will give you 5 volts with your AC to USB power supply.

I think you're on the right track there. A HR coil also has more surface area so you get the added benefit of slightly more vapor at any given temperature. In the meantime tho, you might try regulating your heat with the button. I'm using a 5V PT with a 2.4 ohm atty at the moment and I just hold the button for a second or two on four or five second draws. There's less visible vapor but it's still there.

Another advantage of high voltage and high resistance over 3.7V and low resistance is a better battery run time. People who use LR attys on 3.7V or 5 to 6 volt batteries with HR attys are trying to get more vapor and throat feel. This is achieved by increasing the wattage to the coil and can be done either way, however, increasing wattage by lowering resistance increases amperage (flow of power from battery) which uses up the power faster.
