So I am guessing that the best way to store our stash would be in an item similar to this?

Vacuum Container

Add a few of the dessicant packs, and stick it in a downstairs cupboard.

Done a few searches trying to find one that is solid black instead of clear, but this'll do, and it's only 40 bucks. Little research on your own might find a cheaper/more appropriate container.

Stuff the bottles in, snap shut the lid and vacuum the air out with the manual pump in the lid. Sounds pretty foolproof.

Nice find, 1inchgroup! Definitely along the lines I was thinking. For what it does, the money seems reasonable, but I will look into this too.

Does anybody know, if I have had them in the fridge, and then take them out, will they be OK?

Heather, based on Sun's experience, as well as several others here, it does seem that the environment of the fridge is either too cold or too damp, or both, and flavored liquids can either go bad (taste awful) or stale. Cold liquid will absorb water when opened. So it seems at this point anyway the conclusion is the best storage is dark, dry, and cool, not cold. If you have liquids in the fridge now, it might be best to remove them, let them worm to room temp before using, and store them as I stated above. We are looking into the best possible long-term storage.

heather.... After 2 months in various fridges at various temps they were fine. It seems the flavored liquids were fine to vape for me... anything longer I can't say; best to er on the side of caution, dark, cool, dry place other than the fridge for flavored stuff as are esteemed member Kurt mentioned. :)

Ok guys, I'm still a little confused.

Please tell me if I got it right...flavored nic juice (opened or unopened) should not be stored in the fridge, but for unopened unflavored nic juice, the fridge is ok for long term storage.

Thanks.

Hi Bikergirl,

we don't really know for sure, so there is no black and white here just yet. We are trying to come to some conclusion based on the limited experience we all have. I don't think anyone here has stored liquids for many months or years, which is ultimately what we are after, especially if the fda decides to nix the nic, so to speak.

It seems cool, dark and dry is the best thing all round. I don't think there is an issue with long term storage of unopened unflavored juice in the fridge, but we haven't done the experiment yet, so take that as a disclaimer. One thing is for sure: if you must store in the fridge, or are doing so now, bring any e-juice back to room temp before opening. Cold liquid will absorb water...actually e-juice at almost any temp will absorb water, but more if cold. Short term might be fine, but I've heard of far more problems in general with the fridge than just room temp, dark place, dry.

It seems there IS a problem with flavored juices in the fridge, even unopened, for more than a few months, based on Sun's unfortunate experience with this.

If you are building a reserve of unopened high nic unflavored juice, I think the best thing is just put the bottles in a box in the closet. Unopened will not be affected by ambient water vapor in the air.

For those of us that want air-tight piece of mind, and have or are getting 100s of mL of high nic unflav juice, there seems to be a neat vacuum sealing container, about 3 L in size, for about $40:

Sample-Storr Vacuum Containers

One could add a desiccant, like silica gel. The low pressure inside will minimize O2, which is also an enemy. Then just keep it in the basement. This is probably about as good as we will get, and it may be somewhat overkill, but I would prefer knowing my liquids are safe for the long haul than wondering.

You are in Georgia, and so humidity will be an issue, especially with flavored liquids. It is the moisture that is more of a problem than heat. Bugs cannot really grow in e-juice, between the nic and the PG/VG, but water will eventually react with flavor compounds with not good results.

Stay tuned...I'm sure this story is not over yet.

Kurt

PS: Been here a week and I'm already esteemed? Thanks! :D

You surely are Kurt. Someone asked for a chemist to chime in and share knowledge and you jumped right in with some very helpful information. This topic is something I'm def interested in because I DO have a significant amount of juice, unflavored and flavored, that will last me a looong time, with the proper storage. That is worthy of esteem man! :)

Oh and thanks for the info. :)

Weird ... I have had my bottles out for about two month now . I don't see a difference . I didn't realize i was supposed to keep it cool . when i got it it was hot . I live in Florida also . besides things tend to get lost in my fridge.

Another good find! Thanks for locating these.

When I bought a few extra 50ml bottles of 16mg PG before seeing this thread, I vacuum sealed them with a FoodSaver (available at Costco) and put them in a wine storage refrigerator we keep at around 50f.

I'm hesitant to put any consumables in vacuum at room temperature. Does anyone know if there's a potential for botulism with these liquids?

Kona, I also have been storing all my unflavored in a wine fridge set at 56F,starting 11 months ago cause of the Canadian ban.. all in bottles 20-35ml as received sealed/unopened ..I'm now using the Jan.09 stock now..I only open 1 bottle at a time to make my DIY mixes for a few weeks. All is good to date..
I can't leave it at room temp up here in Canada..the seasons change too much and it either got too hot too humid or too cold..so with all that kind of fluctuations I thought wine fridge was the best solution for me..:)and its working out so far..

Away..
If you go straight to the manufacturer of nic liquid in most of our stuff the shelf life is one year for nicotine.
Electronic Cigarette liquid nicotine electronic cigarette nicotine, liquid nicot

Dow says 2yrs on PG at ambient temps.

Nicotine freezes @-112F (-80C) Erowid Nicotine Vault : Nicotine Material Safety Data Sheet 2

Now, we have bottles from the same companies that say 2 yrs storage life.

Maybe due to different flavoring used? Many say one days heat and sunlight changes so we know thats bad and fast.

I can't see cold damaging it. Some have mentioned humdity. In a sealed bottle?

Looks like a decide for yourself deal.
