What are those 2 little pieces of cloth/paper made of exactly?
Is there a place to buy them in bulk form like in sheets or something?
I only seem to get the best flavor from this type of material, wana try making a wick with this material for a kanger head coil..

8 years ago, when I first started vaping, I used aquarium filter to replace the material in cartomisers. I have not kept up with what people are using today.

LOL... that's a new one on me... I remember using tea bags, though!! Never thought of using aquarium filters... The tea bags did seem to work pretty good for me, though...

OK you have 2 high-temp silica tubes around the coil assembly, then 2 'diaper' sheets of silica cloth around the tube, then 1 sheet of polyfill / fluval wound like a Swiss roll around the inner components.

The polyfill burns so cannot be used as a wick, which is why it is protected by 2 layers of silica cloth (multiple layers in reality because the 2 diaper pieces are wound around the central tube).

You can maybe find silica cloth on Ebay if that is what you mean to use as a wick. Polyfill is available from madvapes but don't use it as a wick.

Thanks for that very informative post, rolygate!! I've never bothered to pay that much attention to what was in my cartos, and now I wonder why they put poly fill in there in the first place.... I may have to check out the link that classwife posted here, I've not read that thread yet...

Are you sure that paper cloth stuff is silica cloth?
Im talking bout that lil paper/cloth thing on the left, not the polyfill stuff on the right...
that link for the High Temp Silica Cloth stuff doesn't really look the same though..?

The polyfill does the same job as open-cell foam in a race car's fuel tank: stabilises the liquid, stops it slopping around.

You can also use aquarium blue foam. Like polyfill it can't take heat.

Can be either poly or silica cloth depending on the carto. If it burns, it's poly. No good for a wick, only used near a carto coil for cheapness.

Use of poly means that you can't dry burn a carto like an atty.

If you haven't tried Rayon I would suggest you give it a shot. Many folks have been getting very good results using it for wicks. I have been using it in all my attys for months now and find it to be very clean, heat resistant, and easy to work with. IMHO rayon will out perform anything found in a carto. This video may help you decice for yourself.

Got ya... we put wiffle balls in gas tanks for off-roading (they don't break down in gas as easily as most foams do, so less maintenance)
Thanks again for the insight, rolygate!
