PG (Propylene Glycol) is partly responsible for throat hit (as is nicotine). VG (Vegetable Glycerin) is a thicker liquid, may not wick as well as PG, and helps with vapor production. Different people prefer different mixtures. Some people are allergic to PG so they use eliquid with 100% VG. Different juice vendors may use different percentages, although some offer different options. It's really a matter of personal preference. If given a choice, I use 70% PG and 30% VG.

In the main, PG increases flavor and VG increases vapor. Different people like different percentages for that reason and others. Allergy to either ingredient is extremely rare, however, some people have "sensitivities" to one or the other. This is another reason for ratio choices. Then what setup is going to be used comes into play. PG, having more the fluidity of water, and VG, more the fluidity of syrup, will work better in different devices. One last thing (think I've covered them all) is that PG is more drying to mucous membranes so those who find it so have to do more drinking and choose it because it provides a greater throat hit than VG does. VG, alone, produces no throat hit at all. Most people, taking into consideration all the above, opt for a balance of the two leaning more toward one than the other. Pretty much and industry standard is 80%PG/20%VG, 70%PG/30%VG. Personally, I vape 70/30. If my only choice at a vendor's site (one I happen to like) is, for instance, 50/50, I buy a higher nic strength than I like and add plain PG to boost it to my preferene. Some people with a sensitivity to PG buy 100% VG and others with a sensitivity (usually those who do deep lung inhaling and experience a "heavy" feeling from VG) opt for 100% PG. So, you see, you asked quite a complicated question. Your question was brief but the answer not so much. :) My advice?... If you vape for throat hit... keep your PG ratio up. If you don't care about that and vape mainly for flavor, keep your VG ratio up. Try some of different ratios and see what you like. Buy small sizes.
