What do you believe is the safest wicking material out there and why?

...we are exposing ourselves to health dangers from harmful oxidizing
elements(chromium oxide) in stainless steel wicks. Silicosis from silica wicks
or the unknown chemicals used to manufacture the porous ceramics.

Are these effects negligiable? or will we face new challenges
in years to come from the irony of wanting to improve our health?

Is there something out there we could use as the "perfect" wicking material?
If so do you have any suggestions?

I think they are as most of the points being made about exposure are coming from information regarding the direct hazards of working with and being exposed to inhalation hazards (as in chromium fumes for welders and silica from breathing the dust in a factory) things like not over oxidizing mesh and the fact we dont "breath" the silica dust cut down these risks considerably and very little if any information is proving we are in fact receiving quantities of these substances that would reach toxicity levels required for symptoms to appear. for example I dont see how its possible for silica dust to end up in the vapor from a wetted wick

something to think about - what about the nickle, chrome and aluminum in the wire being used? no matter what wick is used its the same red hot wire possibly releasing fumes as well.
