I only buy and use the recommended AW IMR batteries for all my REO's.

Because:
The spring in the REO will collapse in case of a short. A battery that is too long will compress the spring and the battery might not fall away from the contact if a short occurs.

18650 - AW IMR 1600 mAh
18490 - AW IMR 1100 mAh
18350 - AW IMR 700 mAh
14500 - AW IMR 600 mAh

Raynman probably meant 18650. I use the same AW IMRs, the Reo was designed for them and they are recommended. I use them for all ohms, above and below 1, but if you go really low the 1600s are better/safer than the 2000s.

Actually the REO Grand was designed for the protected 3000 mah Ultrafire battery but that was a long time ago and we don't talk about it.:)
(I still have a bunch of them).
