What Lies Beyond Twists & Spinners

Hey All,

I’ve been a VV Vaper for a couple of years now using a Dial-A-Volt, Go-Go Fury, the eGo Twist, and the E-Max Twist. My preferred devices on these VV batts are the Go-Go M1 tanks, the miniViviNovas, MaxVaper’s JK65, E-Max tanks, and the E-Max V2 Clear tanks. Though I like the iClear 30 and 16, and the ViviNova and miniViviNova top coil tanks, the newer bottom coil tanks are just better enough for me to stay a BC vaper. The mini and regular ProTanks are too cool-ish for me.

I only vape 70/30 tobacco flavors.

The sweet spot for the juices I use that give me the Flavor, TH, and Vapor that are the most satisfying, regardless of the battery/tank combo I’m using, is right around 4 volts. Anything over and I get start getting a burnt taste. The only exception is V4L’s 5V Vapor Zeus. Not only a great vape, but the finest automatic vape I’ve ever tried. But the Zeus isn’t a VV batt so it’s not part of this discussion.

From now on I’m going to making assumptions and I know how slippery that slope can get. What I’m interested in finding out is just what are the benefits of going to an APV device?

Does it truly matter how I get to the sweet spot, using either a VV or VW device, with my favorite juices and tanks? If I set my batt to 4 volts it tastes best for me. If I had a VW device I’d set it until I hit the desired sweet spot and I assume that would directly correspond to the 4 volt setting on a VV device. What’s the difference in how the coil gets hot as long as it reaches the sweet spot zone?

The reason I ask is if the FDA’s new deeming regs go into effect as written the existing e-cig gear will be banned in about 3 ½ - 4 years. We’ve got that much time to see if we can get our congresspeople to change the regs. If we can’t … then after the regs go into effect in 3 ½ - 4 years somebody with really deep pockets will have to sue the FDA. There are more scenarios out there but in the meantime … there’s going to be a lot of stocking up to do if everything goes wrong for us.

There’s no telling what new devices are going to be coming out until the ban comes down. But if an e-cig apocalypse were to happen next month (which it won’t) I’d stock up on the tanks and coils I like, learn how to make my own coils, and purchase more nic and flavorings to continue down the DIY route I’ve been going for the last 2 years.

Eventually all my VV Twist-types will wear out. And getting them after a ban could be problematic. But the batteries used in mods will be available forever. Who’s going to ban batts like the 18650’s? Therefore it makes sense to get a good, dependable mod, or two, before the fan gets hit.

My preference would be more towards a Provari type flashlight over a box type mod. I’m looking for a simple to use, least number of menus to click through, lightweight, VV or VW (does it matter?) replacement for my Twists. Keep in mind 4 volts is what works best for me with my current tanks/juices.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I don't think nicotine delivery systems can be banned, theoretically. It's essentially a machined metal tube with a battery and connector. Now tanks maybe but I highly doubt it.

If you're really worried you could check out the vamo v5. I belive it's 59.99 on mtbakervapor. It's a vv (vw?) mod. I think it would suit you well you can dial in youf settings. You won't see a huge improvement in vapor or flavor if you're usually standard 1.8-2.5 coils, because the bigger picture to mods is eventually dripping/rebuilding and maybe lowering your coil resistance.

If you'd like a great experience learn to build coils, pick up a vamo and a Kayfun. :)

My husband has the same question. I recently upgraded from the twist VV batteries (I still have and use 3 of them though) to a Sigelei Zmax Mini VV/VW. I am a flavor-chaser. I upgraded to this APV and am awaiting a protank 3 for the BDC feature. My reason for upgrading was that I became bored with my other setups and for me, part of what keeps me vaping over smoking is the fun of trying new equipment. Also I feel like my flavors lose their flavor early in the day (even though I vape 3 flavors on 3 tanks). I don't know if better flavor is a placebo effect of a new APV or not, though. My husband says that the amount of vapor/flavor is the result of a quality atomizer. I don't entirely disagree, that's why I ordered a protank 3 BDC, to get better flavor and vapor from the dual coil atomizer. I would also love to know from other vapers' experience what improvements to the vaping experience APV's provide.

I know you said you wanted a tube mod but I started on a vamo, then a zmax and didn't start loving vaping till I got my MVP v2. They are only 40 bucks from reputable places have an internal battery and hit great. Also they aren't that big. I pocket mine just fine.

I'm guessing the battery isn't replaceable? I'm looking pessimistically towards vaping zombie apocalypse where the mod has to be very durable and the batteries will always be available. As for loving vaping ... I started doing that with my 808 starter kit. And it just keeps getting better.

Nothing will survive modpocalypse like a mech and a rebuildable atomizer.

Even though mechs are technically the most simple of eCigs there can be a bit of a learning curve to using one to suit your needs, but if you want something that will outlast all other options then look no further.

If you MUST you can add a KICK to control the power, or do what many experienced mech users do, and figure out how to make a coil that is acceptable on both a full battery charge and when the battery hits its avg voltage (approx 3.7v)

btw, the reason you have found 4v to be your sweet spot is a lot of clearomizers cant handle more than that before they fry juice. Usually this is because they use lighter (smaller) resistance wire in the coils which tends to get very hot at higher voltage.

No it's not but it lasts two days and has pass through. For 80 you can buy two

I can well relate to what you are faced with. What lies beyond twists and spinners that might survive the bans is a simple tube mod, with a button, that can be used as a flashlight with a purchased light attachment. That's a mech. Since you like to vape around 4 volts it makes sense. No menus, and all you need to do is learn how to wind a coil for your target ohms. That's your control with a mech. Your own skills.

About a month into vaping I was about where you are with hardware, and the eGo rigs just were not doing it for me. I got a mech, put my Protank on it, and quickly learned it was RBA time. I'm on my second RBA now, 10 months along, and quite settled in, making my own juice and loving it. All I need from the B&M's is kanthal and mesh, which most of them don't have being they are all geared toward beginners. I just order my stuff online. The FDA cannot ban kanthal and mesh.

As for DIY juice making stuff, yeah, they could make real trouble for us, especially when it comes to liquid nicotine. Best advice, stock up!

Flavorings might be harder for them to ban or restrict, but they will get around to it in time, being that they are all about supporting and protecting smoking for the sake of corporate profits.
