I want to get a kit for my dad (he's been smoking for over 50 years and has really bad COPD), but I know he won't even try it unless the liquid tastes as much like his beloved full-flavored Winstons as possible. He is interested in PVs, as he has seen how my mom and I were able to quit smoking by vaping, but he's skeptical that it will work for him unless it tastes right. So, before I plunk down the money on a kit and juice, I need some advice on where to get the best Winston-like juice. I know taste is subjective, and he might think it doesn't taste right, but is there a general consensus among Winston-lovers on the best one? He's not interested in my fruity and dessert juices at all. Thanks!

I just hope that the juice not tasting exactly like a Winston won't be a deal-breaker for him. He's very stubborn (although he's the one who suggested e-cigs to my mom and me). I know he's interested, but he always takes a "you go first" attitude. We did, so now I want to make it as painless for him to do it as possible. Thanks!

Successful transition from smoking to vaping is a very personal thing, so depending on what factors are important to your dad, you should choose the equipment and juice accordingly. For instance, amount of nicotine level, amount of vapor production, whether or not the equipment has to resemble actual cigarette, battery life, and of course, the flavor. I, for one, considered oral-fixation to be an important factor, so started out with Green Smoke equipment (very expensive). Down the road, switched to one of the Mod units (Darwin) because I needed longer-lasting battery. Oddly enough, nicotine level and flavor were less important to me in giving up smoking. In the end, I believe the information on ECF was the most crucial in terms of my giving up smoking.

While suggestions like the previous post are very useful, there's always a caveat when it comes to "tobacco" juice flavors. Based on my experience with over 30 tobacco juices (and similar comments from other ECF veterans), taste is more or less subjective. This is especially true of any juice that purports to be "Marboro", "Kent", "Winston", or any other popular analog tobacco brands. One must realize that vaping simply cannot reproduce the subtle burning-of-tobacco flavor that some might expect. So, you may get a juice expecting certain tobacco flavor and be disappointed. This is true especially if you buy a juice based on its "label" or "name" that suggests those popular cigarette brands. Also disappointing is when you read on these forums that for a previous "Winston" smoker, certain brand of juice is the best. It might be, but there's probably greater chance that it won't be. Again, this is not to say that these juices aren't good (they probably are), but far from the taste/flavor that the purchaser might expect. For new e-cig users, this is even more true since they don't know what to expect from these juices, and their expectations may simply be unrealistic (i.e. expecting the same flavor as the analog counterpart).

Given all this, once you get past these expectations, there are many juices out there that will give e-cig users the same type of pleasure as they got from analog cigarettes (even a better experience, I might add). Trick, I believe, is in getting past the initial differences. From then on, it's all gravy.

I just asked this same question yesterday concerning my brother who has smoked Winstons for about 30 years. It was suggested to me to give Backwoods Brew's Adirondack and Backwoods Brew's BacKo a try for him.

He has limited experience with using a PV, as when his son came back from Afghanistan, he had a 2 or 3piece pv and my brother gave it a try. I'm just not sure what eliquid he was using with it. I've gotten him an OldGoat 3.7v bottomfeeder, which has a 3ml bottle, so he can vape for awhile without running out. I'm hoping he will really give this vaping a serious chance, as I'm sure you are for your Father as well.

I wish you much success in your attempt to help your Father get off cigarettes. I quit a 40+ year smoking habit starting out on 36mg juice and a 3.7V Screwdriver PV I got from the guy who developed the mod, Trogg.

Winston and Marlboro full flavor were my smokes for 30+ years.
When I started vaping, I went through several vendors looking for a good match for the flavor of a cig.
Then I realized that cigs taste like burning garbage smells. I finally settled on Backwoods Brew as my primary juice supplier.
The flavors I prefer (so far) are Virginia and Applewood Smoke. The taste is way better than a cig.
If you're gonna get a PV for him, get something with some horsepower (950 mAh), that way, he can get a good, satisfying drag.
Have you let him try yours?

Extremely well said, impossible to find a juice that tastes like an analog. Whoever could do that would make himself very rich indeed. I feel the best tobacco juices out there are house extracted and not fake flavors. If you vape what is actually extracted from real tobacco thats as close as your going to get to fool your taste buds.
