...low ohm(1.7-2.0) for low voltage(<3.7)...high ohm(3+) for high voltage(5>)(short answer) play with this... Ohm's Law Calculator by putting different battery voltages and ohm and see the watt draw...most find a sweet spot in the 8-10watt range...some higher(hotter), some lower(cooler)

There are basically 3 types of carto's Low resistance , standard and high resistance . On 3.7 , and maybe up to 4.5 volts , you can use LR , or SR . On 5 and 6 volts or more , SR and /or HR . You will burn out an LR on higher voltages , almost immediately . I'm sure other members will clarify , but that's the quick and simple .

Really going to come down to personal preference, once you find what you like though the ohm's calculator is good at finding out how to get that performance out of any device. I like everywhere from 6.3 watts (which is an ego battery running 2.0 ohm boge cartomizers) to 9 watts (a 14500 box mod running an LR 1.5 ohm 306 atty). The higher the total watts the more throat hit and vapor you get...some juices perform better at higher watts some perform worse.

So you have a volcano inferno (ego battery) running a volcano magma atty (2.4 ohm 510) you get 5.2 ish watts...kind of tame for me but some people like it.

Use the same battery with a 2.0 ohm atty or carto and your up to 6.2 ish watts...pretty nice with a 100% VG juice maybe still a bit light for a PG juice

An elite 808 with some type of 2.0 resistance cart or atty and your looking at 6.8 or more watts which is pretty nice for 100% VG and good for 50/50 blends...but again this is subjective some people really really really want that throat hit feeling so they will look for a VV mod or a 3.7 battery mod that can handle 1.5 ohm attys

a 5v device with a 3ohm atty gets you up to 8.3 watts which is as high as I like to take 100% VG but its good for say DK-TAB or pink spot juice.

Going to depend on what you like, what you vape, and what you want more of. In the end its all about you and your preference.

edit: all the above devices will have a bit of variance depending on how charged the unit/battery is

Dual coil cartomizers can be used safely on mods. However, many people use them on eGo (proprietary) batteries but it will weaken the MOSFET switch due to higher pull on voltage and the heat they throw off. Basically, the weakening will cause more recharging and shorter life your battery before you have to buy a new one.

Rule of thumb....The lower the ohms, the hotter they burn. Anything low resistance should only be used on a non-proprietary mods. Anything not considered low resistance can be used on anything.

You can go 2 ways...use low resistance on a 3.7V mod for a warm vape or use regular resistance on higher voltage and variable voltage mod to achieve the same warm vape.

I know this can be confusing but that's what we are here for...to help. If you have a specific PV that you are using, use it safely unless you are willing to risk the death of your battery.

This is a rough guide

For single coil things, ohms = voltage-1 (like 3ohm carto on 4v battery) will be warm and ohms = voltage-2 will be hot (though on Ego etc some people won't go that low and will only go down to about voltage-1.5 on enclosed batteries, and go lower like voltage-2 or voltage -2.2 on mods with removable industrial batteries where you can see any damage every time you charge them and they only cost $5 apiece.)

Dual coils are weird. A 1.5ohm dual coil is two 3 ohm coils. So at a total of 1.5 ohms it draws a lot of current, more than some will use on Ego and other enclosed batteries. Some mods even refuse to run them. Yet the actual individual coils could be used on a wide range of voltages because they are not LR.

It can be very confusing. You're going to have to go through a bit of trial and error, but that's half the fun. Here's what I like to use on my Silver Bullet.

At 3.7 volts I use a 1.7ohm Smoktech Single Coil Cartomizer (from Crystal Clear Vaping, they call it the Resurrector). This will work really well on your Ego battery. You should give them a try.

At 4.8 volts I use a 1.5ohm Dual Coil Cartomizer

At 6 volt depending on my mood and juice I either use a 1.5 ohm Dual Coil Cartomizer or a 2.5 ohm Dual Coil.

I find that Dual Coils perform much better above 3.7 volts.

+1 on the low mah and mosfet batteries: you could toast them quick if your resistance is too low.

If you're going to go to VV, then you may want to think in terms of watts: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modding-forum/71422-atomizer-battery-watts-chart.html

The watts will get you closer to the heat output overall-- most people seem to like between 7-9 watts (I haven't found my sweet spot yet, myself). Also, different juices perform differently at different wattage. It's pretty subjective.

I routinely use Boge 2.0 cartos on my eGo-T 1000mah batts. That's about 5.8 watts at 3.4v and 1.7 amps . A dual coil carto at 1.6 is more like 7 watts and 2.1 amps current draw. I like the vape much better.

On a 3.7v battery, the 2.0 ohm cartos are just fine. That's 6.8 watts and 1.85 amps. At 3.7v that carto produces 8.5 watts at 2.3 amps. That's a really warm vape.

Here's a quick reference chart. Click it for the larger, more readable version.
