As far as steam engine I onlky know what wire I am using and I have been using a tootnpick to wrap it I don't know anyghing else so would that caculator be any good for me ?

It is not the greatest for toothpicks unless you know the diameter. Playing with the calculator I'd guess your toothpicks are about 2.5mm. To get to 1.8 ohms at that diameter it would be about 4 wraps. Do you have access to a 1/16 drill bit? Would make predicting the coils much easier and a better size coil.
I use a set of Stanley precision screwdrivers. The smallest blade is 1.4mm. Next is 2mm, then 2.4mm. Plus it has a backstop for squeezing your coil. They are not very expensive if I remember right. I've had these for many years and they still work great.
