@ edyle thank you for sharing your photo the visual will come in very handy. One question, do you trim the cotton as short as the silica wicks?

The full sequence of pics are here:

showing coil dryburning and rewicking.

I used to experiment leaving the cotton wicks on the long side, but found no advantage; I trim them short now, but I don't make any effort to trim as short as possible so they probably look bigger than the silica wicks; certainly fluffier.

If you're ordering any kanthal, I'd suggest the 32 gauge because you have the option to twist 32 gauge together to simulate a thicker gauge if you want, but you can't take thicker gauge and get it to simulate thinner gauge.

Great advice, makes sense. thank you ... and everyone else who took the time to reply. These forums are a great form of support and a wealth of knowledge.... Makes me proud to be a fellow vaper:D

Cheers, Cherie.

I used to dryburn my coils and replace the topwicks with cotton wicks and struggled with trying to put just the right amount of flavor wicking; then I got a small roll of resistance wire and tried building coils and finally tried to rewick a coil; and discovered that even with my old eyes it was quite easy! couldn't really see it clearly but been rewicking for weeks with no problem; I don't even try to put topwicks anymore; I just use the one wick running through the coil, and it vapes a whole lot better than the silica wicks and doesn't seem to have the leaking-after-2days problem I always got with silica.

So without worrying about totally rebuilding any coils, just try rewicking a coil. You'll need to carefull shred out an existing silica wick.

GREAT SOLUTION! I had a hard time finding organic cotton so I boiled regular cotton balls. I made two cotton coils, a 1.80 and a 2.20 and so far so good:) I definitely recomend replacing the silica wicks from kanger coils with cotton:) I am curious to know how many times you can replace the wick on a single coil...?

Thanks again edyle, cheers.
Cherie:)
