What setup to use for my preferences?

Hello!

I would like to try vaping and have been doing quite a lot of research on the internet about different mods and such. I have one or two questions:

-Is it possible, with mods, to produce a cool but thick vapor? From what I've read, it seems to me that if you want thicker vapor it'll be warmer, and thinner vapor is cooler. I am looking for something that is similar to hookah vapor, which is very thick but cool (I understand that in a hookah it passes through water first which is what cools it - so is this possible with a mod? Or will I have to choose between cool OR thick, and never get both?)

-I have more or less decided upon a "beginner" setup and would love opinions on it before buying anything: Joyetech eGo C Twist + Kanger Mini Protank 2. I am on a very tight budget but really don't want to start with a crappy $5 battery that might only last a few weeks and not perform very well. I also don't want to buy a plastic tank because I plan on trying organic e-liquids (Virgin Vapor seems nice) and don't want any plastic/glue to be messing with the liquid.

-Would you suggest a different setup in the same price range ($30-$40 max), taking into account my preference for a hookah-type vaping experience? I have also read that the type of e-liquid you use has an effect on the vapor itself. I plan on trying 100% VG nicotine-free liquids.

Thanks!

you have good taste in what you want out of a vape….. not sure you can do that without being more expensive than your budget.

Maybe try a Protank. I've heard they have a great vape.

RDA's are what most experienced vapers use for lots of vapor (and good flavor)… lots of vapor usually requires a low resistance coil (or a higher resistance with more voltage/watts).

the warmth or coolness of lots of vapor imo depends on the chamber size of the RDA… a smaller chamber = good flavor and warmer vape. Larger chamber will cool it down.

but you are talking right into high end gear ($$$) there in my experience… i used to spend lots of money on smoking cigarettes so i had no qualms about buying better gear.

There are some clones of both PV's and RDA's out there…

but if you want to see what i consider the best at the moment, $$$, take a look at these:

for best flavor, tons of vapor and cooler… Prometey 2

this one is coming out from the same maker:

Another to look up (google or search here on ecf) is the Origen Dripper… unlike the above two, this one is somewhat easily available.

Thanks so much! I will definitely take all of that into consideration. I am actually an occasional smoker, a pack of cigarettes can last me 3 or 4 months (but then during a night of heavy partying I might smoke a whole pack). So vaping would actually be more expensive for me. But I do have a crazy candy/snacking addiction (I know how ridiculous that sounds), it's incredibly unhealthy and I probably waste about $30 a month on junk food so... I'm actually hoping that vaping will help me with the candy cravings.

I am willing to adventure into RDA's too, and rebuilding my own coils/wicks and stuff even though it seems a bit complicated at first, I'm sure I'll figure it out. :)

I have a Mini Protank 2...love them.

For a beginner into RDA I would also recommend IGO-L ($10) - simple single micro coil with cotton wick - place the top cap directly next to coil without any wick under coil nor on opposite side of vent hole: my vapes great with a cool thick vapor.
Just for an example for:
I run 1.5 ohm micro coil (28 gauge 12 wraps) cotton wick at 8 watts on my MVP 2 and is the sweet spot for my DIY juice.

Check out Rip Tripper on youtube for micro coil building

Absolutely. That's exactly what most "cloud chasers" are doing. The trick is to use pure or close to a pure VG liquid and a long chimney between the coil and your lips.

That is fine for the vast majority of beginners. Not sure it's going to be enough to make you happy though.

I'm going to be brutally honest here.

What you want cannot be obtained in your price range.

I know that's not what you wanted to hear, but that's just the reality of it. Fact is, for your hookah style use you need a powerful mod and either a really high end tank system or an RDA/RBA. Trying to go barebones cheap about it you would need an MVP 2.0 and a Kanger Aerotank (Or Protank 2 with Aerotank base) at the very least. $40 or so for the MVP and another $25 for the tank.

That's about as cheap as you're going to get that provides a hookah style experience.

Even with that I suspect you'll eventually find your way to a mech mod with an RDA. At that point you're going to be looking at $30+ in batteries, $10+ for a battery charger, $40+ for the mod, anywhere from $30 to over $100+ for the RDA/RBA, wire, and wicking material, and a good quality multimeter which start at about $20.

To give you an idea here, my Nemesis with Kayfun 3.1 was a total investment of $210.

But that will let you do this:

Holy cow, that is a lot of vapor! It's like dreamland clouds. Although I definitely cannot afford a $200 setup anytime soon, I am really happy to discover that it is indeed possible to obtain the hookah-type experience that I'm looking for. I will keep all this in mind for the future when I have the money for it.

In the meantime, I guess I will have to settle for the best I can get for my under $50 college student budget, taking into account everything mentioned here (I will take a look at that IGO L). This forum is great, I was not expecting so many informative replies :)
