I pulled this out of my lava tube. As you can see the wires on the right are a little..burnt? Those went to the switch.
I have already connected it to a battery and connected the wires. Everything works fine on it. I would hate to just toss it. The only idea I have at the moment is to put it in a battery box. I don't really care if I can see the display or have to open it to adjust it. I just want to be able to use it.

I got one I need to pull apart. Seems like you had to destroy the tube to get it out, if not how did you get it out?
Did you pull it out from the top?

I would like to save the tube to make the tube a simple mechanical mod.

Something is wrong with my chip, I overvolted it and have someone who can fix it.

I am then going to put it in box with 2 batteries and a kis3-r33s module to limit the voltage to 5.5volts and try it as a stepdown to see how much amps I could get out of it.

Actually the tube is still in good shape. The buttons flew off tho. Top cap and end connector are ok. Were OK. I took the 510 connector out of the top.
The top cap I took off with some pliers. Its just glued in place. If you want to keep it nice use a cloth or something around it when you grab it. As for the insides I used a long 1/4" socket extension and a hammer. Might have been an easier way, but it didn't work anymore. Figured what do I have to lose.

nosmok, there are no telepathists here. You show the pictures but don't explain background. What happened, why you disassembled the mod and what way? When the wire burned (if so).

It looks like it stopped working. He thought it was dead. He decided to tear it apart to see why. He found what looks like a burnt wire. Maybe he knows how it got burnt or not..He than tested it and found that it still works and now wants to do something with it. That is the way I read it.

Hope this helps..

The fire button stopped working. Everything power on and up and down was working fine. When I took it apart I saw that the wires connected to the switch were fried. The bottom picture of the above post shows the wires to it. Most of the white insulation was burnt off of one of them. I connected it to a battery and multi-meter. It turns on still and will fire when the wires are connected. Adjusts volts as it did before. I'm not really sure why the wires melted apart as they did.

It had a three month warranty. The switch its self didn't come out as nice as the rest of it did. Putting the buttons back in would be a PTA. I don't recommend taking it apart just to see the insides of it. I was think something like this.

Yeah I wouldn't take mine apart unless it stopped working..I'm pretty good with mechanical and electronic things though probably could get it back together. Before I took one apart though I would like to see one taken apart in a video..it's always easier to dissemble something if you can see how it comes apart 1st. I'm sure you could make a nice VV mod with that chip and if you had a dremel style tool you could probably set it up where it had a window to see the screen :)

Question for the OP or anyone else that might know..since you say the top cap on this device is glued in does it have threads too? I saw on a video on an older LT the top cap was threaded but either thread locked or glued and wonder if they are all like that? I just want to know for future reference in case mine ever fails (things like bad connector or switch) or I buy a broken one so I would have an easier time getting one apart as I like to tinker with things :)

Mine wasn't threaded, just glued in place.

Good to know so if I ever pull one apart I'll warm it with a hair drier or a light bulb so the glue loosens a little 1st..but not too hot to melt things..thanks for the answer :)

On another thought isn't there a plastic cap on top of a aluminum one on top or is the plastic just glued to the body? On the older one I saw it was a plastic cap on top of aluminum one like the bottom cap and the aluminum was threaded in...

The top plastic piece with the connection was set on top of another aluminum ring (see second pic) that sat on top of the lip that you can see on the inside. The lip that is shown on the inside of the tube is the ring you see on top of the board in the OP. Third pic shows the order they were put in. I didn't destroy the plastic like you see it in the pic taking it off. I did that removing the 510 connection from it.

This is how it looks with out the plastic on top.

I have one of the original vtubes from Apollo. I went on vacation and packed my Lavatube in my suitcase. (not my carry on) When we arrived at the airport I picked up my baggage and immediately went for my Lavatube. To my dismay the top cap was pulled off and the wires connected to the 510 connection were exposed. I just pressed the cap back into the tube and its worked ever since? Was this your experience OP? Were you able to pull the cap off without breaking the device? I'm asking because I'm worried my juice has been getting into the chip compartment and I'd like to pop it open again and clean it up. Sorry to be resurrecting an old thread, but I might as well add my information to this already good thread source of info. Any info/experiences would be helpful. thanks.
