I don't have a great idea but have seen one video on rebuilding PT's. I believe VaporLady was using 3 mm silica and uses no flavor wick. She mentions using 2 mm silica with 1 mm appearently used for flavor wick. I don't know about ekowool. There are a ton of videos that have this info. Just google "rebuild protank". You have to wade through the videos to get the size info.

Hope this helps.

For simplicity have found 3mm to be the ideal thickness for rebuilding Evod heads. If you use high VG liquids, you may want a bit smaller size in there to help with wicking, but otherwise it works perfectly for the majority of liquids I use(50/50 blends).

I have used 2mm Ekowool as well, but that can lead to flooding when using thinner liquids (higher PG). You are left with a small open space between the wick and top head piece. I ended up laying a few strands, or flavor wicks, on top of my original coil to correct the issue.

I've used 3mm, no flavor wicks and 2 X 1mm with 1mm flavor wick on top of the coil. Both worked well with good wicking and no gurgling.

https://www.pbdragon.com/lair/wick-and-wire/580-silica-wick-08mm.html good prices, sold by the foot, $4 shipping and handling - great vendor for wick.

I've linked to the 3mm but they sell other sizes.

I'm sorry, I am brain dead, literally. Does that mean you used 2- 1mm wicks total on top of the 3mm?
Do you think dismantling some 3mm would do the trick for the flavor wick?

I have 2 different sizes of wick that I got a long time ago. Of course neither one was marked by the vendor & I can't remember what size I ordered. I feel like an idiot for not saving the receipt. So it's all a guess until I order some more, then I can compare.
Thanks for the reply.

lol, I wasn't clear, sorry.

No, they were two separate rebuilds. Either a 3mm with no flavor wick or 2 X 1mm wicks through the coil with a 1mm over the top.

I have peeled off a thread of the 3mm before to make a flavor wick, it worked well for me.

Just give it a go with what you have. You can always add flavor wicks on top of the coil if you get gurgling, poor wicking or hot juice on your tongue.

Aglet, thanks for your help. I used your link & ordered 3mm & 1mm. Seems to me that the 3mm ought to sit down in there nicely. I'll try that & can always adjust accordingly. Currently I'm using Boba's & Gorilla juice, both 100vg. Hopefully that work with those liquids & if not I can always cut it down with some distilled H2O.

Thanks again for help.

Please note that some of the people repling are posting sizes for silica wick and not necisarly ekowool....

I can tell you without a doubt that 3mm ekowool is to big..

Using normal twisted silica, I always used 3mm and then sometime needed to put a strand or two of the 3mm on top...

I've tried the 3mm ekowool and it does not work period.. I've used 2mm ekowool and never found it satisfactory, but never really got into it. I just picked up some 1mm and will try the double 1mm with 1mm on top tonight and get back here if I can...

Ok I put one together... looks like 2 x 1mm for the coil and 1 mm on top is the ticket....

Aglet I use pbdragon as well. That's funny I've tried their 3 mm and without any flavor wicks I get flooding. I have to unravel it and use two pieces and i get no flooding. It's great wick. I use 60/40 pg vg.

About the ekowool I've used used 2mm and evod heads and it didn't wick that great. I only tried it once I need to try it again.

It was you that told me about them my friend :vapor:

Hmm, that is interesting, it works for me on all the builds I have done - 3mm through the coil, no flavor wicks. Good thing is it takes less than 30 seconds to just drop a flavor wick on top of the coil if necessary.

Ha, good deal. It's good stuff.

I just tried another ekowool build on a PT head it works decent. Wicks well, but not any better than the silica I got from pbdragon. I didn't drop much money on it, just got a few feet from eBay.
