What TI voltage regulator to use on a 5v mod?

Hello everyone,
I'm gathering materials for a 5v Nicostick with a bottomfeed JB mod, I've searched the forums to find an appropriate Texas Instruments 5 volt regulator and I haven't seen a thread mentioning the pros/cons of the different options. Can you guys list the which TI 5v regulator you use, and why you chose it?

get that one at madvapes that allows you to use low rated switches. it has what they call "control pin" just dont ask me what it is. its rated 3 amps...

I use the same one misterD put the link to in his post due to the control pin and it hasn`t given me any trouble yet on my mods.
You may want to Put TI Regulator in the search feature on the bottom left of the forum page here. Lots of great post come up there. Got stuck reading a few myself and had to pry myself away back to your post to respond.

This is a great question and I'd be interested to know also. Hopefully someone out there has used others. We may have to search though because most people are using the one from madvapes since it arrived on the scene because it has the "control pin" to enable small switches to be used.

Anyone use other than the LDO from MadVapes?

It works fine with a properly rated switch. I do prefer the one from madvapes as it allows me greater choices in switches.

The switch is not an issue for me since I will be using either 4xAA battery box or a project box, so a switch rated for 3 amps will have plenty of room. I've requested 2 samples of UCC383T-5 and 2 of UCC383TDKTTT-5G3 to experiment with.

It might be a while until I can get to the build and list any differences I find between the two since I have yet to find a reasonably priced US dealer for my 14500 batteries and charger.

If anyone has any knows of any sweet deals on batteries and chargers that are still available, please forward it to me.

Thanks Sci, but I've been hoping they would restock as they appear to be out.

I tried to order from them several days ago but at the checkout screen there are red asterisks, underneath it reads, "items with red asterisks are not available in the quantity you desire[...]". As I have tried to order a single battery too, I'm assuming they are out. If this is a false assumption please feel free to correct me. I even sent them an e-mail asking when they might be getting another shipment but they haven't gotten back to me at all.
I appreciate it anyway though.

Also I would like to update that I have received both models of 5 volt regulators that I mentioned in an above post. I will take pictures of them and post them up with initial impressions in a few, waiting for my GF to go to sleep so she doesn't accuse me of ignoring her =OP

***UPDATE***

Ok all,
here are the (2) different TI 5v regulators that I ordered,
UCC383TDKTTT5G3 on the left and UCC383T5 on the right.
I have included front, back, and side views with dimensions, all measurements are in inches.

The one on the right has a larger tab to screw into a heatsink however I don't think I'll need to utilize it with the current I'll be working with. Of course I could bend/trim down the leads and the heatsink tab so I'll probably sacrifice one of the two that I ordered and trim it down to the same dimensions as the one on the left. I'll then swap between the two models and test them out with a multimeter.

I have no experience with tinkering with electronics but if you're doing a flashlight mod or anything else using the battery enclosure as a ground I would be wary of allowing the back of either of these to come into contact with the housing. It would probably be best to isolate it with a non-conductive material to safeguard against this.

They both come with thermal shutdown and reverse current protection so I don't foresee any problem with heat-shrinking or placing tape on the backing.
If anyone has any input on problems they've encountered by doing this please let us know.

You made a good choice with the TI regulators. They are a high quality item that can easily handle our e-cig needs using any atty of any ohms and it will not drop below 5V.

Get yourself a decent switch. Wiring them is quite easy.

It didn't hurt that I got all of these for free using their free sample program lol, I'm glad to hear that they are so versatile.

You don't need to worry about the TI regulators getting too hot if they touch the plastic. They don't get that hot in the 5 or 6 seconds it takes, to take a hit. At least that's my experience using the smaller TI regulator (UCC383TDKTTT5G3).

As far as batteries and a charger. The Custom Saber Shop is the best US supplier I've found, that consistently has them stock, and also has great prices. A trustfire all in one charger for $8.81, and their protected 14550's come in 2 packs for only $5.64. They also have fast shipping. You won't find a better deal in the states. (High tech deals is good, but they are often out of stock).

I also just placed a free sample order from TI for same 2 regulators. TI will mail via FedEx, will I need to pay for delivery?
