My Mom likes Tribeca and so do we, because of it's low odor offensiveness to us non smokers in a confined space. My wife has asthma and some of the "stronger smelling" tobacco flavors would trigger it.
I was thinking of something like Apple or something else that's mild, but would offer Mom a subtle change once in a while.
I don't want to have to experiment that much and really can't since I don't smoke and couldn't tell a difference in taste of the vape anyway.
RY4 double at 10% is the primary flavor in the clone recipe I'm using.
If I add another flavor, what would be a "safe" starting percentage.

Any suggestions on flavors and mixing percentages would be welcome.
No menthol's or exotic flavor really needed. My mother is almost 88 and has dementia and I am just trying to mix thing up a bit for her pleasure and still keep the "smell" in the tolerant range for my wife.

Or I could just keep with what I have, since she seems to fine with it. I've just read that after a long period of one flavor, one loses the taste for it.

Thanks in advance..........

I think you're on the right track with the apple, plus there's several fruits and berries that might work well. I usually bump up the caramel in that flavor as well. Another flavor to consider adding is some of the nut flavors, such as almond, hazelnut, etc. I'd suggest cutting the ry4d back to about 8% and 2 to 3% of the flavor you're adding, then adjust from there.

You could also experiment with cutting the ry4d way back and using a higher percentage of the other flavor to make it more the primary flavor. I've done that with good results using almond or hazelnut. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Here is my latest RY4 variant and it is awesome, at least to me. This is for 10ml of total mix:

45PG/45PG/10H2O/15mg nic

7% TFA RY4D
3% TFA Bavarian Creme
3% TFA Vanilla Swirl
3% TFA Butterscotch
6 drops INW Dark Tobacco
6 drops INW DNB
:vapor:

Based on this, I mixed up:
70PG/30VG/18mg nic
7% TFA RY4D
3% TFA Caramel
3% TFA French Vanilla

It smelled awful when my mother was vaping it. All we could smell was burnt caramel. Tribeca clone was much nicer to have in the air.
Mom said she liked it, but she reduced her daily amount by half, so I know she didn't like it that much.
I'm switching back to Tribeca tomorrow to see if her usage goes back up to normal.
Like an idiot, I made up 30ml thinking it would be wonderful. We all like caramel and vanilla, don't we!
Next experiment will be a 10ml batch.
Question......I heat steeped this for 4 hours at 140 degrees. Did I need to?
Also, instead of an amber color, it was a rosy/pink tint. Does that sound right?
Would the other ingredients have helped?

Yes indeed I like caramel and vanilla lol. Those are the only two flavor I order more than 10ml at a time. :vapor:

The original TFA caramel has a little natural sweetener added (corn syrup or similar) and is a coil gunker. If you examine your mom's coils I'll bet a nickel to a doughnut they're gunked up pretty bad in as little as 6 or 7 mls. I'd suggest TFA caramel candy or another brand for the caramel.

As for the vanilla, I've never tried the TFA French Vanilla but I really like the TFA Vanilla Swirl for a good ice cream type vanilla and if I'm only going to use one vanilla that will be the one. I've been having better luck mixing two or more different vanillas together and recommend giving that a try.

I would eliminate either the caramel or vanilla and use one or the other at 2%. Also if your using a VB you may need to lower the voltage and posibily rebuild or change the coil. It sounds like the coils are clogging. This needs a good 5 - 6 hours steeping. A pinkish red is usually caused by vanilla flavoring so this would be normal if not completely steeped. Given more time it will likely turn brownish from the ry4d and caramel.

I actually got the new Caramel without corn syrup.
When I looked at the coil after 8ml, it still looked new. No darkening at all.
I will next try one flavor at a time to my nic base.

Yes, process of elimination. Another thing I just thought of was steep time. For me RY4D needs a full 4 weeks at least.

Can I make a base 70/30 eliquid with RY4D and nic and steep it?
Then take a small 10ml sample of the steeped eliquid and add caramel or vanilla to it without needed to steep again?
I was thinking this might be a simple way to experiment.
From what I read, steeping seems to be more for the tobacco flavors rather than the fruity flavors. Is that correct.

I've got a variant that I find quite nice - adding either Bavarian Cream or AP (Acetyl Pyrazine) to a DblRY4 mix for more creaminess or nuttiness respectively. Or both.
Cream up to maybe 4%, AP at 2% maximum (or it changes from "nutty" to "corn chips").

I haven't gotten anything I liked adding caramel yet - I think either it's too concentrated or I just need a different caramel to try...
