I wish I asked this before ordering some online not long ago as it was the first time I had had the option to chose the ratio. Someone will chime in with a more technical answer but short answer is PG really gives you the flavor and VG gives you the vapor. Depending on your setup and preference, lots of people offer differet ratios to customize for your wants/needs.

It seems a popular ratio is somewhere around 60%PG/40%VG or 70%PG/30%VG. Even 50%/50% mix.

Hope I could help out a little. :)

PG carries flavor better and increases throat hit, VG produces more vapor but may mute the flavor. Some people may have a sensitivity to PG which makes their throat/nose/lungs irritated. I would suggest starting at a 50/50 blend and adjusting from there depending on your sensitivity and preference. I personally started 50/50 and am now ordering at an 80/20 VG/PG ratio as it turns out I do have some sensitivity to the PG and don't like a hard throat hit. On the other hand, my wife enjoys a 60/40 or higher PG/VG blend as the flavor is more intense.

Like as been stated, going with a 50/50 blend is a good place to start. Sort of the best of both worlds until you figure out what works for you. I started with all VG and really liked it. As long as your nic is high like 18-24mg you will still get a nice throat hit. Now I hover around 35PG/65VG or 40PG/60VG. Great balance of flavor and vapor. Not to mention my nic level is down to 9mg now.

Now you've had your explanation on PV/VG and what they do. What I recommend is to play with levels on smaller orders till you find what you like. Moving up and down by factors of 10 each time. I use a 50/50 blend, but that's just me. Play till you find you own happy place. Mt Baker Vapor is a good place to start, they ship fast and let you select you level, plus the price is right.

Never actually tried this myself, so take my advice with a grain of salt: if you're not sure what ratio is best for you, find a vendor that offers cheap samples and the option to customize ratio. Then order one flavor you like in all available ratios. Shouldn't break the bank, and you can get a better feel of your reaction to each, while keeping the flavor a constant.
Personally, I haven't had issues with pg or vg - though vg does give me more cotton mouth/throat than pg. I'm still playing with flavors and ratios myself, trying to find what I like before fine-tuning the diluent ratios, but maybe the above suggestion can help you out.
