I'm a fan of simple coils, running a large surface-area micro coil in my rda.

That said, I have a friend who SWEARS by clapton coils. Says they produce the best flavor by a long-shot. I can't say I 100% agree with him, and clapton coils are kind of a nuisance to make (at least for my shaky hands), but it's worth experimenting with.

I tried a parallel build on 20g with 24 wraps total kanthal at 165w and it was as cool as a mini nautilus at 12w. I swear, there are some real coil magicians out there. He said it was his winning cloud comp build and I believed it since I still blow vapor when I burp three days later. Amazing the flavor though.

For me its twisted coils for flavor, noticeably better then single strand, covers more surface area to hit the same resistance, not much more effort to make - an extra 30 seconds if you own a drill.

I've tried clapton coils, zip coils, tiger coils, loopy coils, chain link coils, other then much more difficult and time consuming to make, didn't notice much difference between them and a coil using twisted wire, marginal at best in terms of flavour IME

I should also add I only really use RTA's, perhaps those fancy builds shine best in an RDA...

Kudos & +1 to the KISS Mantra.
I run 5/6 wrap 26 ga duals on my El Cabron & new 13 Heavens & 9 Hells RDAs powered by dual 18650 UnReg Box Mods and get All the Flavor (& more than acceptable Clouds) I could ask for.
As others have said,,, To Each-His Own and It's All Good.
Guess I prefer more "return" for my efforts & expense or it just doesn't make much Sense to worry with or about.

Thats not necessarily true. If i build a regular coil, then a twisted coil to the same specs, the twisted tastes better every single time.

    You are making my point.
That's true only because the twisted coil is the one that you are getting the temp & AFR correct with in the RDA that you are using. Think in terms of thermodynamics instead of just coil design. Anything, even just changing drip tips can change the thermodynamics of a RDA, and thus require a change of coil temp or AFR.

I have found that a lot of fluids taste different at different temperatures. I run 24G NiChrome in my drippers at less than .5 ohms. They burn really hot if you choke off the air flow a bit, but some fluids taste better that way. I use 26G Kanthal in my Kayfun, orchid, and genesis type tanks at somewhere between 1.2 and .8 ohms (depending on # of coils). They heat up slower and burn at cooler temps. Taste is very subjective. You just have to play with your tanks and figure out what you like. I've tried the twisted coils, claptons, flat ribbons, etc and all I can see that they do is eat up my batteries faster. Vaping is a popular habit/hobby/obsession, but part of it is the variety of options available to you. Experiment. Play around. Try new things. Find what works for you. Just keep it safe and sane and stay off the analogs. :headbang:

Explain how it works with Ni200 with temp control than...Because that's what I use.

Pretty simple, just the physical size of your coil, or the quantity of wicking material used change the thermodynamics of your RDA. This in turn changes the amount of fuel required to attain your ideal air fuel ratio.
So the "wicking" is probably why your simple coil isn't producing the flavor you want.

It works just like your car engine. Combustion heats your engine, and the cooling system (air & liquid) keeps it running at the proper temperature. All TC does is reduce the power (wattage) your PV puts out to control coil temp. It has no control of the AFR. The only time TC even becomes a factor is when your coil is so dry that it becomes nonfunctional.

Is that a white flag I see? :p It has to do with fluid dynamics, not heat. Twisted coild produce better flavor because the coils themselves can hold more juice, in the same way that steel rope is used in Genny style atomizers. Fluid flows into the spaces between the wires, collecting there until its capacity is reached. When you fire it, you have more juice being burnt off, but slower than a micro coil because of the amount of juice available. Thus, creating your flavor.
