What type of cotton again?

So fixing to start trying to rebuild my coils (see how that goes) and was wondering for the wicking material can I just use cotton I can get from Walgreen or where could I find that at that is online?

If you go to CVS or Walgreens, look in the first aid section, not the nail supplies section.
You want the sterile stuff. hope that helps.

As soon as I read "fixing to" I knew that you were from the south, and more than likely Texas. I lived in the Dallas area for about 10 years ('80-'90) and although I DON'T miss the traffic, there are many things I do miss.

Anyhow, back to cotton. I use cotton cooking twine that I get from BBY. I do boil it, twice, because it is natural, unbleached. I then use a bead needle (hobby lobby) to pull some of the strands into the coil. How many strands depends on how big the coil. For my 1/16" drill bit wrap, I use 3 (doubled over to make 6 in the coil) and 4 (doubled over to make 8) for the flavor wicks.

Works great for me but as always, YMMV.

and yes CVS sterile rolled cotton for me.. been using it for 6 months and still have a lifetime supply... best $5 spent

You might want to try braided cotton wick rather than cotton balls. I found it easier to work with in my small
coil rebuilds ( like EVOD and T3's)

I personally liked boiled organic cotton. A lot do.. Boiled or not boiled.. Sterile cotton. Yarn.. You'll get many answers on this.

100% Organic Unbleached Cotton Balls. Noticed no difference in boiling them so I don't.

That must be some REALLY thin stuff! When I use a 1/16 I use one strand (out of 4) of Sugar and Cream yarn from Hobby Lobby. I tried out bamboo that was really thin. Haven't formed a real opinion of it yet. Kinda earthy tasting. Weird.

Go to Rite-Aid and buy sterile cotton. It's usually located in the same area where they have gauze.

I stopped using cotton balls for wick, and started using cotton yarn. I think yarn is easier to use and lasts longer than cotton balls.

When I make my coil, I wrap the wire around a 2.4mm (3/32") drill bit shaft ... That makes the inside diameter of the coil large enough to insert 2 pieces of yarn through the coil.

In fact, I use 9 or 10 wraps of 28 AWG Kanthal wire. This makes a 1.6 - 1.8 ohm coil.

Looking at the photos below ... you can get the idea: (the reason the coil in the photos below looks a little 'rough', is because it has been used for about 2 weeks)

I just went to Walmart and bought a bag of sterile cotton balls, parboiled a handful to use. Works great. Still have like 186 cotton balls left, but have moved on to hemp fiber and ramie fiber.

Yeah, haven't used it since, either. I did a 20 minute boil.

I never boil mine but know of some that do. It is a matter of preference.... and I prefer not to.

My cotton bag only says 100% cotton on it, doesn't say organic. But it also doesn't state there's any chemicals in it too, just cotton. Should be fine. I don't boil. Takes forever to dry.

I usually squeeze em between paper towels, then fluff em back up a bit. They dry fairly quickly that way.
