Luckily I've never had to deal with staying up for a black friday sale.
When my kids and nephews were little I would
buy them gifts. Once they got about 5 or 6 I started a tradition of not getting them anything to open on Xmas day, since with the presents they get from their mothers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and more, they have plenty to open that day. Instead I would tell them a set amount of money they could spend and take them shopping 2 - 3 days after Xmas and let them get whatever they wanted and didn't get from others. They all absolutely loved it as did I since it got rid of the aggravation of shopping and dealing with relatives to find out what everyone else was buying them lol.
When my oldest turned 15 I started a tradition that he could pick a concert, between November and January, and his present was that we could take a 2 or 3 day trip to wherever the concert was. He looked at the fact that most of these got him out of a couple days of school as a bonus present lol. My daughter always just stuck with liking the shopping trips.
Now this year I told my son (he's 19) he gets cut off now that he gave me a grandson that I have to start the process all over with.
