I've been reading posts here and there to find out, but can't decide..
Does anyone have suggestion for wick & coil selection and where to buy them ?
I know stardust & fluxos are cheap enough to buy (I mean.. compare to analogs, not to cartos with filler).
My purpose is to have my own customized ohm + some fun doing this little project.

My main concerns on selecting materials are..
- Health concern (coil and wick should be safe for human body).
- taste. (I heard that some coils give you metal/iron taste.. which I am very sensitive .. )

Please kindly share your tips here for me .. and for others who might want to do this for fun.
Thank you ! :)

Here are some info I got from another thread: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...apes-stardust-how-re-wick-replace-coil-6.html

I summerized .. for those who do not want to read whole post..

Wick suggestions:
[Quoting RockinRobbieSF]
Thread on wicks: McMaster Wicks
I got some wick from COV (for iatty supplies) which was cheap but they were a lot thinner than I was expecting--you pretty much have use two (maybe three) to get the right thickness. I'd love to find a place that would sell the thick wicks like you get in a stone tank (if anyone knows, please share!). Of course, if you have a lot of old CE2s, just repurpose those wicks!
If you go with McMaster, get the LOOSELY twisted ceramic (McMaster-Carr), don't get what I got. It's relatively expensive ($20) but you get a ton of it. I hear some people like Nextel sleeving (Nextel Braided Ceramic Very High Temperature Sleeving) and some people hate it.
Finding wick you like is a lot more difficult than getting the wire!

[Quouting nicotime]
Wick is the easy part....if you want nice straight wick that doesnt have a lot of flyaway fibers and is not a nightmare to unwind...look for silica sleeving...not rope. You can gather as many strands as you want to make a thick or thin wick. Two feet of this will give you enough wick for hundreds of attys. You can see what I use in this thread and how it looks. I call it..."My Mod" !!Warning...graphic intense!! ... and the link.... http://www1.mscdirect.com/CGI/NNSRIT2?PMAKA=31951064

It literally unwinds itself when I boil it to clean and sterilize it...which everyone should be doing with anything from McMasters or MSC...or anywhere else for that matter. This stuff is not intended for use around something thats going in the human body so you should prepare it for that.
[End of quote]

coil suggestions:

[Quoting WillyB]
For folks that want to try nichrome shoot for the nichrome 80 (NiCrA) over the 60.
PnJ Resources, LLC : Nichrome 80
The price includes shipping.
[End of quote]

[Quoting RockinRobbieSF]
E-Bay Seller (coinswiesiek) of resistance heating wire (Kanthal A 32 awg 75 ft) - I got my wire very fast.
Resistance heating wire Kanthal A 32 awg 75 ft, | eBay...
[End of quote]

If anyone has any suggetion/information on coil or wick, please share with me.
Thanks !

Thanks for all of your comments, antfuzz, Randyrtx, LordDavon, burns_erin, and other who read this thread.
Yes, I certainly hope that gotvapes can carry some wicks & coils as I know that gotvape stand behind their products.
That said, danno or bad, any plan to carry some tuff for DIYers as LordDavon already said ?
Antfuzz, do you prefer nichrome coil to kanthal for any special reason ?
brun_erin, maybe you can give chris or danno a little nudge to have some DIY stuff on gotvapes.
:- )
Let's keep this going. Please leave your comments here.

Coil is pretty easy to get. You can get the wire I had on my video (Gotvapes Stardust: Changing the Wick & Coil - YouTube) cheap from eBay--remember to burn it until it gets red and wash it to remove the machine oil! I haven't tried nichrome but trust those who prefer it. Someone says it gives less an "iron" taste to their vapes than kanthal. (Personally, I never noticed an iron flavor but I haven't been able to do any comparisons--yet!)

I think getting wick from a vender that sells DIY ecig supplies is best, like COV or Heavens Gifts (5x atomizer glassfibre wick - atomizer DIY material Heaven Gifts). Of course, repurposing old CE2 wicks is a great and cheap way to use a wick! The thin wicks you'd probably watn to double (or tripple) them before wrapping. I'd love to be able to get the thick wick coil (like for Stone tanks) but haven't found anywhere that sells it. (I did find one promising place in Malasia but it had $40 international mail charge!) If you get McMaster or silica sleeving, I've been told it is a good idea to boil it before using to sterilize it since it is not used for human consumption.

Good luck!

A ghost must be vaping too.. On the top it says there are 11 posts in this thread. I only see 10. (Results 1 to 10 of 11)
Thank you for your input, RockinRobbieSF and Aunt Cranky.

BTW, I am wondering the difference among McMaster(ceremic.. I believe), silica sleeving, and glassfibre.
Out of ignorance, the name, glassfibre, certainly scares me a bit.

Chris had mentioned in the main thread that perhaps a version that accepts drop in coil/wick assemblies is a possibility.

The 2mm wick that COV sells for the Odysseus atty doubled, works exceptionally well.

Odd. I was not able to read Big Screen D's post until I post 12th.
Anyway, That's good news if gotvapes carries drop-in coil&wick.
I will also check out 2mm wick for Odysseus atty.
Thank you for the info, Big Screen D.

My wick always stays good. What Burns out are the wraps on top. For that I (husband) use kanthol & can wrap them to the resistance I want. Nichrome will work as well. I think I picked up some of each on eBay.

for wick it might be worthwhile to look into ceramic sleeve Nextel xc 116. some ppl are using it for wick in iatty and several other devices. there are also a couple different kinds. 3m has some different kinds of stuff too. i got a couple of small samples by asking nicely from the omega company. seems like it would work very well but i havent tried any for a wick by itself.

it might be worth a look through the modding section as i think the wick stuff has all been covered by the rebuild-able atty guys. just have to glean out the good bits lol
the stuff is better if it is heat treated so for best results do some homework first :)

3M Ceramic Textiles & Composites - Nextel(tm) Braided Sleeving
Nextel Braided Ceramic Very High Temperature Sleeving

i think same company also have the silica sleeving too

Thanks bmwjen and harmonic
True.. harmic. I've been reading modding section. Maybe too much information there. :- ) haha.
They use all sort of materials .. especially for wicks including Stainless Steel.
So, I started this thread to narrow down wick/coil choices in regards to health + non metal taste.

But, again any information is appreciated like source of material or experience with certain wick & coil. I wish gotvapes just provide these materials so that we don't have to worry about getting material part. makes gotvapes one-stop-shopping-site.

still not a convert for the stainless steel wicks yet and with the ease and reliability i have had with my visions i havent done much playing lately...
but the one time i used the ceramic stuff it did not seem to affect the taste at all no metallic or burn and lots of vapor.
as with any diy coil / wick assembly ymmv as there are lots of factors at play ...

You know what, at the end of this thread, we are all going to be able to build our own attys... so GV, when are you coming out with rebuild-able attys??? ;)
same question here.. rebuildable atty OR drop-in coil/wick part or raw materals.
Sent PM to Chris asking if he could shed some light here.
