My current setup is a couple of ego c twists and 2 mini vivi novas and 2 evods. I am getting tired of throwing out heads when I can rebuild them...

I am hoping on using cotton wicks, since from what I can see its "safer" than silica. As for the gauge of the kanthal wire I'm not sure what to use.. I would like to have the resistance at 2.0-2.4 range what would you guys recommend?

Also other than extra heads, wire and wicks what else would I need to purchase to start re building heads?

For clearos, 32 guage kanthal a1 is often recommended due to its versatility. I used 4/5 coil on my regular VVN to attain 2.2-2.3 range. Personally, I enjoy cottonball wicks because they are easy to work with, but there are other options which you can read here. Make sure you don't dry burn cotton wick, and remember to prime the coil/wick (drip 2-3 drop on coil/wick) before firing it up on your device. Lastly, if you don't have a PV that can do ohm reading, make sure you have a cheapo DMM to check resistance/short.

I use butchers twine, it's unbleached pure cotton with no sizing like yarn has .... So no boiling needed. Butchers twine comes in a variety of thicknesses, just pull some threads out to get the desired thickness you need. Get some 32 gauge A1 kanthal, a 5/4 wrap should put you right around 2 ohms.

For tools, sharp scissors to cut the cotton, a fingernail clipper to cut the wire, tweezers and a needle. Wrap your coil around the needle/cotton, otherwise it may be too tight and burn your cotton quickly. I use a #2 sewing needle. If your mod doesn't have an ohm reading (provari, vamo, etc), get a digital volt meter, cheaper the better, I've seen them for as low as $5. And I often use cheap 3x reader-magnifying glasses picked up at the drugstore, great to see what you're doing... Or screwing up :)

Best o luck!

I prefer #4 100% cotton yarn for wick, I picked up a spool at a local craft store for $2-$3. #4 fits perfectly in a vivi.

Check eBay for kanthal, I got 100ft for $10 from temco

For rebuilds, besides wick and wire, I use wire snips, micro screwdriver set, and a lighter.

I use a 2mm screwdriver to wrap the coil around and thread the yarn through, and a 1mm to adjust the coil if needed.

What is a DMM? I'm also looking for vendors for the same stuff as the OP....somewhere other than ebay. thx!.....oops, never mind....you're talking about the olm meter, right? I have one of those but still looking for a vendor for the wire and wick.

For the price of a cheap DMM, it's well worth it. A lot easier than putting your gear together, trouble -shooting it, then taking it apart again.

Best place for resistance wire is temco, either via ebay or their site: Resistance Wire

Wick is available at many ecig vendors, I dont use it, perhaps another can point to a good source. For high-end wick thats been receiving rave reviews, some are using ekowool: Ekowool

And DMM = digital multi-meter (volts, ohms, amps)
