I need some suggestions. Based on my past mixing experiences, quite a few of you recommended I try a single flavor juice, and most of you even recommended Double RY4. So that's what I did at 5%.

After 3 days of steep, I could wait no longer and filled a tank. It tasted great and I mixed up a bigger bottle for later. I let the original steep for a total of 12 days and just tested it again. Alas, most of the flavor has disappeared. I shake the bottle daily at least once a day and shook it before filling the tank.

What caused this? Should I increase the percentage? Can I expect this flavor to continue to weaken over time, regardless of strength?

Thanks for any help

Hmm, interesting. I have been mixing this flavor in 10 milliliter amounts, so it really doesn't last more than 4 days for me. I remember mixing a bottle, and letting it sit for around a week, and it was still great. But I haven't tried waiting much longer than that.

You're using a tank setup, like a carto-tank? If so, how long do you use the carto before changing it out?

If all hardware is beyond suspect, my only guess, or recommendation rather, would be to try mixing smaller bottles from here on out? (Annoying, perhaps, but to retain that delicious flavor, could be worth it ;) )

I have to agree totally with Levitas [A difficult thing to do :) ] Some flavors just don't last well over time, although most tobacco mixtures aren't even vapable until they have steeped. Testing with a carto tank makes doing DIY very difficult. I would suggest getting an atty for testing. That way, you can test a batch every day or every 2 days to see what is going on. I do also suggest keeping detailed notes on each batch. It is so easy to forget or get mixed up.
Some like the Double RY4 fresh and at 5%. I like it at 1% and steeped a month. You should be able to find a happy medium somewhere by mixing up 2 small batches at different strengths and tasting frequently. Bad taste usually comes from too much flavoring rather than too little.
Also, if you are relatively new to vaping, your taste buds will definitely change over time

I mixed a batch of 555 when I first started DIY. It was 6 mls. MMMnnn..... nutty good. So, I decided to make 30 mls. Same recipe right? So I put the same amount of drops in the 30 mls. Tasted like nothing. The 5% or 5 drops in 6 mls does not make for the same recipe as 5% in 30 mls. Duh! Thought I was so smart. That was the least of my mistakes so far. I won't go on, I'm starting to tear-up.

I followed a recommendation by Cyrus on a mix and did a 30 ml batch of RY4 double at 10% and added 5 drops of AP. I've never tried Tribeca but that's what it's been compared too. I love the stuff. No loss in flavor after 2 weeks either (just got better). The only time i've ever experienced a loss in flavor is when I used to steep for long periods of time with the cap off, I don't do that anymore.

I use the eGo-C tanks. I continued smoking the tank, and started to taste the flavor coming out. Perhaps I should mix this stronger in the first place, because it had been quite a while since I tried the batch, and I was so amazed that I could finally mix a juice that I completely liked that I had forgot just exactly how the fresh juice tasted.

Levitas, are you saying you don't steep your Double RY4?

Thanks all for the input. Seems like I over reacted a little and I have to try and remember a 60+ year old mind doesn't remember very well. That's going to be hard to do, (remember to remember).

At any rate, I think I now have the confidence to continue mixing.

Yes sir, that is exactly what I am saying :) I've tried it, it didn't work, I kept vaping on it, haha. So, I mixed two bottles, one to vape, and one to steep... I vaped them both, :D I've given up on waiting, it's fantastic fresh. Shake and vape, baby.

I'm not familiar with the eGo-C tanks, lemme google it right quick... okay, so, it's an atomizer, essentially. Perhaps the issue is with %'s? You might enjoy it more at a higher %, or, if you've one, try direct dripping onto a normal atty, and see where that gets you.

Glassman-- (how have you been?) i agree with you .. you cant test your batches in a carto.. you gotta get yourself an atty..

toweknee-- i like heavy flavoring for everything.. i aim for 15% or 20% on my Double... because after steeping.. that stuff is jam packed of nice thick flavor..

rlafontaine1971 and my4jewels-- first of all i gotta try that tribeca clone... sounds good.. and im a fan of that AP... but what my4jewels says is a great idea.. Double ry4 is just TFA's version on ry4 with a big caramel punch to it... and TFA nailed it... its so freakin good stand alone.. rather if levitas chooses to stepp it or not its still good.. ( i wil forever bother you about this levi.. sorry man) BUT!!!! mix it with more vanilla notes.. or even add a little more of a tobacco flavor to it.. and boooooyaaa! even better. i tend to toss some more caramel in mine also... not that TFA didnt put enough or anything.. :)

I hope the OP doesn't mind me mentioning this. I know we're talking about the RY4 Double, but the Asian RY4 is really yummy, too, loaded with flavor. Anyone tried it?

I have it. Not really for me, though, I can see how it could be a favorite for many. Honestly, it reminds me of an element found in HHV's Gandalf, and Oompa blends. This is very desirable to a lot of people, though, not for me, personally.

I pick up a maple flavor in it.

Smelling the bottle, I can see where you get that! Alrighty! You've convinced me to retry it, one moment please...

...well I'll be a son of a South American Tree Sloth. It pains me to say it, but, this blend has indeed improved with steeping (don't tell graff). When fresh, it's a bit much for me, after 2 weeks, it seems quite vapeable. There is hope yet for this flavoring, it appears. I still get a tiny bit of those HHV elements I don't care for so much, but, it's definitely toned down with a little bit of age. I still cannot taste the maple, but it definitely smells of it.

Well, at least it's vapeable... The TE RY4 is also quite good. Gosh, I love diy...:)

Blackbeard, THIS almost 70 year old mind has a notebook where everything is recorded.. not just recipes, but also first impressions. It works well for me
