My work friend decided to take the plunge into vaping and asked me where I got my REO. After talking to him for a bit, we agreed it isn't a good starting point for him because he doesn't want to rebuild coils (at least not yet). The problem is that I've been happy in REOville for quite a while now and have not been paying attention to all the latest equipment. What kind of tank / battery setup can I hook him up with that will get him as close to an RDA experience?

Yep, a simple start so you can help him focus on flavors you are likely to share!
He's already watching someone with a REO, starting off with an eGo/Clearo is going to be quite the disappointment when they get together and vape. Yes, the eGo/Clearo is the gold standard in starting point for vaping but he's already seen the vapor coming from the REO and that visual aspect may (or may not) be part of the draw to trying vaping. Getting him a traditional starter is not going to come close to the REO and may leave him with a sense of not getting what he's looking for.

Yes, a regulated box with a sub-ohm tank is a few steps into our self imposed 12 step plan but this is not 2014, advances in hardware has made starting off on step 4 a little more accessible to everyone than it was just a few months ago. A VW box with a sub-ohm tank nowadays is virtually plug and play.

I started with the Kanger Evod kit but have since upgraded to a MVP20watt mod with a Aspire Nautilus Mini tank. Evod was okay but being able to regulate the watt/volt makes the flavor pop on every puff once you get it dialed in. If I had to do it over again I would have started with the MVP/Aspire. I picked them both up at myfreedomsmokes.com for about $75 ...they are listed in the forum suppliers section so I'd imagine this won't get modded...lol.

Normally I would rec an ego/clearo type setup, but I don't think that's gonna cut it for him. He has eyes for the REO and Odin. Lol.

I checked out the Sigelei and the Aspire Atlantis or Kanger Subtank and I think that might be a good "compromise" for him.

Thank you so much everyone. He's one of the last remaining smokers here. I hope this works for him!

Thank ya. I'll have him check out the MVP20watt too!

If it's not rebuildable is it really that "advanced"?
That was my point earlier, what was considered advanced just a few months ago is now plug and play. A Sigelei with an Atlantis (or KST) is just about as advanced as an eGo with an iClear 16, you fill the tank with juice, screw it on the mod and it's ready to go. He has you to help with setting the wattage so that's the one advanced part over an eGo (unless it's a twist then it's actually less advanced since you can see the setting not guess on the twist).

6 months ago and I would have said an MVP with a Pro-Tank or some such setup. He's seen your REO, seen the vapor and will be looking for something close to that (consciously or subconsciously) to feel like he's in the same place with you in the quitting and switching program.

I wouldn't recommend the Aspire CF Sub battery for a first time device since it's firing at battery voltage and with an Atlantis at .5 ohm a fully charged battery is going to be a pretty intense vape at well over 30 watts. If it proves to be too much you can't just dial it back or build a higher resistance coil to dial it back.

Well, all clearos and glassomizers seem to have issues. I almost gave up on ProTank2s until I got the Tatroe bases. I still had my Halo Tritons to fall back on while I fiddled with the PT2s. No issue with the ProVari I got with them, though...

Don't rule out the iPV 2S. 60w, upgradable to 70w, waterproof, 5 custom presets and unlike the Sigelei, can be charged via USB meaning he doesn't have to buy a charger. You can also adjust your watts in .1w increments, all the way to 70w where the sigelei only adjusts in 1w increments, after 50w. And if a charger doesn't matter, the iPV3 is pretty much a 150w version of this.

Another mod to strongly consider if within his budget is the YiHi SX Mini.
