So it's been a couple of months since I started vaping. I'm pretty proud of myself for switching over so well considering I've been smoking for like 18 years and never tried to quit.

My mom told me that she saw something from a famous Dr. * (wizard) who said that going with a pill plan was better than ecigs because there are still lots of chemicals in them, one being something used in anti freeze.

I believe that there isn't anything in this world that isn't harmful to you at some level and assured her that I made the right choice.

If it were you answering, what would you/have you said? Just curious :)

ETA: BTW, I did mention that my juice is hand-mixed by a wonderful company in AZ so I pretty much know what goes in it :)

That antifreeze ingredient was found in a very small amount (less than 1%) in a Chinese juice. That ingredient is NOT in fsusa juice.

PS- That ingredient is also in some NRTs in trace amounts like nicotine gum. I wish I could remember what that ingredient was I've read about it more than once but the name escapes me.

That's about what I said too...that everything these "experts" are talking about are those cheap crap ones sold at like 7-11 that come from China and we all know there's no telling what they do to stuff. No one says anything about the ones actual people use because they don't know anything.

ETA: He says it's diethylene glycol.

I was just reading through them again...I particularly love the rat study. I'd love weight loss as a side effect! LOL!

Me too I could stand to lose quite a lot. I'm feeling especially plump at the moment too after going to Mama Louisa's Italian restaurant I had a salad and bread-sticks then Lasagna with spaghetti and finished it off with a chocolate dipped connoli. My wife couldn't finish her chocolate connoli so I actually had 1.5 of them, oh my god it was sooooo good.

Well....some of the confusion comes from poor reading and comprehension skills....er...I mean...confusing Propylene Glycol, which IS an antifreeze, with Ethylene Glycol (typical in automotive antifreeze). Just because a substance has a property to lower freezing points doesn't mean it's deadly. Otherwise...stop using salt.

My answer would be that my wife is on the forefront of molecular and cellular pathology (i.e. her field studies things that can go wrong in the body at the deepest level) and she would never be ok with me putting anything in to my body if it weren't safe. When I started looking in to e-cigs as a way to quit smoking (I had been smoking for 10 years and had struggled to quit) she started looking at everything she could on a scientific level to make sure it was going to be safe for me. When I got my first e-juice, she even took it to the lab and ran an MSA (mass-spectrum analysis) on it to see *exactly* what was in it, not what was claimed to be in it. Mass spectrum analysis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Long story short, Donna wholeheartedly approves of my vaping, not only because I've quit smoking, but because she knows it will do me no harm.

Thank you Jonny- I get this question from time to time when I explain to people what's in the e-juice. They hear "propylene glycol" and automatically think of antifreeze. There was a foresins type show or something on TV where a husband was slowly putting antifreeze in his wife's gatorade. The word propylene glycol was mentioned alot in that episode, so I'm thinking that's where they think this
