I'm a fan of butterscotch and I'm a fan of menthol type flavors. I'm going to be doing my first DIY batch after work this evening and was thinking of a butterscotch/menthol combo. What I'm after is a strong butterscotch taste with an aftershot of menthol.

Trouble is...I'm dumb! I forgot to order menthol crystals and I'm out of spendable funds for the rest of the month. I DO have LorAnn's Butterscotch and Lorann's Spearmint though. I know spearmint isn't really even close to menthol, but in a pinch it might do...and may even be good.

I'm not familiar with flavoring, but I'm thinking about 20% butterscotch and 10% spearmint. Does this sound like a correct amount? Too much? Too little?

I would add the spearmint drop by drop tasting in between till u have it right...just note the drops and next time you can just make it and it will be right..

Great idea, Debb! But does the 20% butterscotch sound about right for Lorann's? I'm not sure how stout it is.

I would start with 10...til the butterscotch is good then add the mint.....I always start low and move up to taste on a new recipe...good luck....will check back when I get home tonite to see how it turned out..

Hint on the menthol -- working with menthol liquid concentrate is a lot easier, for being able to reproduce things, compared to the crystals. I'll use crystals just to kick up something, but for mixing I use the voidmist menthol liquid, costs under $2 for 7 ml. You only need a little at a time -- for a pure menthol vape I just use 1 ml per 30 (3%).

The Perfumers Apprentice, other places, also sell the liquid concentrate.

Start low on your percentages and go up. You can always add flavoring but you can't take it back out once it's mixed.

Actually, I prefer a SM mix over menthol. I would start with 10% BS and up the drops until you like it. Then add the SM to taste.

OK...mixing is done. My very first batch (15 mls) of ButterSpear is born. Just lettin' her breath for an hour or so. 80/20 PG/VG and 24 mg.

OK...tried out my ButterSpear juice...not too terrible. I added spearmint in small amounts and tasted but I don't think I mixed well or something because the final product is a little strong with the spearmint.

At first I thought it was horrible because it was bitter like crazy. Then I remembered I had the voltage turned up...turned the voltage down and it regained it's sweetness.

Whoops, I should have cautioned ya on the SM... add a drop or two and let it steep for a day. The 'mints can overwhelm other flavs... my bad!

I'm finding that this DIY 'hobby' takes a LOT of time and much patience!

I see that. No problem there. I enjoy tinkering with this kind of stuff. My initial attempt was to try to create something butterscotch with an afterthought of spearmint. What I ended up with is something akin to vaping Juicy Fruit gum. It's vapable, so it won't go to waste, but sure isn't what I was after.

Next thing I think I might try (I'm out of butterscotch flavoring) is a LF USA mix flavoring with some cherry. I assume I would go really light on the cherry and mix drop per drop, but how about the USA mix? Would I need to go fairly strong on that?

mix the usa to your liking first...and slowly add cherry till you get it where you want it..

Note, the cherry may be difficult. Ones I've tried tended to have a mediciney, cough syrup aftertaste. Nature Flavors Black Cherry, from their C&TFS, is good (I like black cherry, have never noted an aftertaste from it.)

I agree...cherry never works for me...I usually use a berry...rasp, blue,straw...etc..

I haven't even bought cherry because of the reviews of various cherries I found here and there.

I do like blackberry (yum). Wasn't a fan of the LA strawberry.

I'm about to go mix up some peach that I got a week or so ago and forgot about.

I just tried butterscotch with menthol and I don't think I will ever be able to vape butterscotch again. It ruined it for me lol

Cherry pairs very well with lime or key lime with a little menthol. Tastes like a cool cherry limeade from sonic. Cherry is a very strong flavor that is easy to go too much on.
