Got 4 new RCR123A batteries in today and made a quick battery mod with some tubing and bottle caps. Continuity checks out with no shorted wires. Voltage w/o a load reads 6+ V but they will not firing the carto. I tested the mod with an old pair of cr2's and it works fine. Also, I've tried other good cartos and nothing. The carto's are the new double coils and read 1.7 ohms. Do I need a 5v reg? I bought the batteries from an amazon battery store, and they are the blue tenergy brand. Any help is great, thanks.

If your batteries have the built-in protection circuitry, and I sure as heck hope they do, then the problem could be that you are trying to pull more amps out of them than they can deliver. At 6V with a 1.7ohm carto, you are trying to pull 3.5amps. If you look at the specifications of the specific battery does it show that they will deliver 3.5amps? My guess is no.
Try putting on a 3ohm atty or carto and see if it works, if your battery specs say it can deliver 2amps.
But if you're using unprotected batteries, well, please just don't use unprotected batteries.
Your problem also may be the wire you used, can it carry the amps? Or the switch you used, again, is it rated for the amps?

Yes they are definitely protected. Jeez. Thanks for the fresh set of eyes. Never thought about using a 3 ohm for testing... Of course it worked, and of course I don't really have any good 3 ohms on hand... I thought I had my finger on the current issue and you helped me know for sure. Thank you.
