I have had my cat who's about 4 years old for 3 years. In that time, I've always smoked in my place with the cat around. He would occasionally get the sniffles or sneeze and would always run the other way when I would light up (which was often). I started vaping a couple of days ago, and now he's started sneezing more often. I read somewhere that that could be an effect for me when I quit smoking, but I didn't realize that maybe the cat would go through "withdrawal". Or could it be that he's sensitive to the stuff that I'm vaping?

My cat seemed to get ill for a few weeks... right after I stopped smoking... then she was fine... I wondered if there was a connection to vaping-

Exhaled vapor evaporates rather quickly and doesn't linger like 2nd hand smoke. It's more likely the cat is going through some kind of withdrawl from the smoke or some other unrelated thing rather than it being caused by the vapor your exhaling unless you're blowing it in his/her face. Just keep an eye on the cat, if it doesn't clear up contact the vet, my guess is it's something unrelated.

Both my cats would give me a dirty look and then disappear instantly whenever I lit an analog or sat down with one near them. Since I started vaping, they stay wherever they are and act like it doesn't bother them any more than my just breathing air. The younger one will actually climb in my lap and rub on my face while I'm vaping, or sit on the table right in front of me. He's a freak though. :) Neither of them has sneezed at all. You might want to check with your vet, your kitty may have a cold or an allergy to something.

That's what's funny. He's an indoor/outdoor cat. He's usually outside when I'm vaping. So, it's not like I'm blowing it into his face or anything. And maybe I'm making too much of it. He used to sneeze maybe once every 3-4 months and now it's been once a day for 2 days. I think that his system is probably adjusting to the difference in the environment and blowing out the toxins. And like I said earlier, he seems to be as perky and healthy as he's ever been.

I have a dog that I can make sneeze almost every time. All I have to do is tap her on the front of the nose. Not hard or anything, she takes sneezing fits all the time. Just about anytime she bumps her nose she will sneeze. Its really funny when she and my other dog start playing. They will be rough housing and then bam, he hits her nose and then he is like, aw crap. Now I got to wait till she finishes sneezing. Sometimes he does, sometimes he doesnt hehe.

It could be your kitty is getting rid of toxins, just like you are. When I had that realization with my cat, it made me feel pretty disgusted with myself... but I try to think of it as what I'm doing now is better for her, too.

My cat wouldn't run when I lit up. Not because she didn't mind - I could tell she did - but because she's always followed me like a little duckling. She didn't want to be in my lap when I smoked, but she wouldn't run away.

Now? I'm vaping as we speak and she's napping in my lap. Doesn't bother her at all.

I was always careful not to blow smoke AT her, but there's a part of me that doesn't like myself for ever smoking around her at all.

The most annoying thing about my 1 year old cat is, she pulls on the mouse cord while I am trying to browse the web.
I have 5 cats (long story). My oldest cat sneezes all the time.

Another thing to think about is the weather chaning from warm to cold back to warm.
Their skin is drying out, and they could be sneezing at their own dander or saliva drying on their coats.

So call your vet, they would be your experts.
Hope everything is good with your baby.

I know what you mean...I felt the same way. Not enough to stop smoking, but enough to feel guilty.

Fuzzybutt has learned not to pull on cords or cables! Most of the time, I speak to him in a "baby voice". When I lower my voice a couple of octaves and say no, he knows that I mean business.

And I understand what you're saying about the weather changing. A few weeks ago, we were having heat indexes between 100 and 110. Last week, we were getting down into the lower 40s. This week, it's sort of in-between...

Lucky! My cat only learns by hurting herself. Which, at her age, is frustrating. She is not the spry kitty she once was, so now I have to watch her more closely.

But when she was younger and could take it, I gave up trying to make her not do certain things. She learned not to chew wires by getting zapped and learned not to walk on the loft balcony by falling off (only about 7 feet). After that, she never did either of those things again. Stubborn cat...
