Hi all,

I've been vaping for about 5 years now with a Reo Grand and most recently a BF Rogue. (Best combo hands down)

I am using dual 6 wrap 26G tensioned coils with the coil master 2.5mm/3/32 rod. I have been using ReadyXWick and Nicoticket liquid for a good long time and I have only experienced this twice.

The only changes are the change to the BF Rogue and the use of the coil master to make a truly touching wrap coil, before I would use a darkzero style jig and they never came out this perfect.

Coils before the coilmaster required many more strokes through with a 2mm rod to glow evenly from inside out. Coils with the coil master glow evenly inside out immediately after installation.

I have dry burned ReadyXWick with less perfect tensioned coils in an RM2, Odin and Derringer and have never experienced this problem.

My dry burn method is to vape as dry as possible. Use cotton swab to soak up any remaining juice on/in the RDA and rinse the top cap/drip tip. I then take a paper towl and pat some of the crud/black stuff off the coil. I go outside (smells horrible when burning) and then press the button for 3-5 seconds, blow on it, repeat until done.

Typically, 1 (same coil) coil glows red for significantly longer as the other coil has more liquid in it. When the coils do not have any wick they glow completely in sync.

The issue with the RM8 and 3MM ReadyXWick is now that after the first dry burn, all is well and great. The 2nd dry burn completely RUINS the flavor. With GCD, I tasted nothing but a harsh burnt cinnamon and with Radioactive, I got nothing but a disgusting chemical taste where my sweet tobacco coconut should be. ACB became equally atrocious.

I will pull the RxW, rinse the RM8 in the sink and dry burn the coils, replace with cotton and it tastes exactly as it should, delicious. This is without cleaning the bottle/tube and using the same juice.

What is happening to my ReadyXWick???

How old is the wick? Mine typically lasts 2 or 3 dry burns/blowtorches a month apart.

After that i throw it out; it's hard to re-fit and it shows deterioration. I've not had the contamination of flavour you mention. Typically a few ml of juice and it's back to normal.

I rinse the entire atty, wicks and all, then pull the wicks and blowtorch them. Most times i just replace the coils and re-use the wick.

Oh, I forgot to mention that my dry burns are 1 week apart, the flavor is significantly changed after 1 week and renewed by a dry burn in the past for at least 2 years now.

I have never removed the wick from the coil and would never get it back in if I did that...

I could get a pen torch, but I dont want to dry my orings on the RM8 :/

Assuming no bad or intermittent termination or turn gaps…it's about the oxidation. I've made a lot of coils on jigs and no matter what we may think or it may appear that they're in close contact it's never as close as a well made tension wind. The close contact lets you oxidize at lower voltage and it's a really good indicator if strain is unbalanced. You will detect the variations in wind color temp turn-to-turn or between coils at this point. But yeah I've written about it often that formed coils that seem paired when pulsed aren't in operation, as power is applied and increases.

On lifespan…sheeesh…hate to say it but I've used wick for months and from device to device. They actually perform better with use. Just allow bit extra. Helps when you dry burn to wiggle a bit back and forth. If you pulse until it's dry it will more easily loosen inside the coil as aggregate cooks away. If you must remove it for torching just trim the loose ends, tuck the end in with a fine flathead screwdriver and you should be able to rotate it in with a little pressure. I try to hold on to as much of the stuff as I can and save myself the break-in time.

G'luck tmel and give us a shout if the problem festers. Beauty is only skin deep.

:D
