Having vaped now for 5 years I have noticed several leaps in the evolution of vaping.

In the beginning it was the basic 510 battery and atomizer
The 2nd evolution was the introduction of the cartomizer
The third evolution was the introduction of different resistances and variable voltage e-cigs. I don't know which came first.
The 3rd evolution was the introduction of multiple types of coil arrangements. Top, bottom, sideways, dual, triple, tanks etc.
The 4th evolution has been the introduction of rebuildable attys and cartos because the doomsday preppers told us the FDA was shutting us down so stockpile now.
The 5th evolution now seems to be the diversification where every day I see a new type of battery, mod, atty, cart, carto.

My head is now spinning. I don't know what to buy next.

What is happening?

If you go back to the intro of the e-cig in 2006 and add a great juice, I can no longer tell you what device I am vaping off if I were to be blindfolded. Assuming a fully charged 4.2 battery and standard joye 2.5 ohm atty, I cannot barely tell the difference.

And as much as I love vaping, the craving for a marlboro never goes away.

What is happening here other than vaping has now just become a business? Or has it become hobby. Clearly people have become amazingly creative.

And I don't mean to be a naysayer. I love all this stuff and if price were no object, I would buy everything. Literally.

May I respectfully hand out a BS card on this?

There is absolutely NO way that even 2010 vaping equipment can be compared to our current vaping combinations and vaping satisfaction!

The only exception I can think of might be dripping. But I only do that to test new flavs/jooses. Also, how long did da batts last back in '06... ummm?

I don't know. What I started vaping with in 2010 got the job done. I quit smoking. Changes I made were novelty (try out version 1-10 of a clearomizer) or something with a bigger battery or held more liquid.

I've been vaping for over 2 years now and I come here every day just to see what's new. I started with cig look a like and attys with carts.. then went to bigger batts (egos were the rage) and dripping.. then variable voltage and cartomizers.. then carto tanks. Now I'm rebuilding my vivi novas and just got a genesis style RBA and getting ready to start learning that. I went from buying juice to making my own.

Even though I come here every day and check out the latest equiptment, even I can't keep up with all that's coming out and what it does! But I'd hate to have to go back to my first set up.. a smoking anywhere batt with an atty and a cart full of nasty juice :p

I agree at least to an extent. As long as I have a tasty juice and good vapor I am happy. I bought a mod because it was pretty, not because I wan't happy with my puny little ego. If not for that, I would probably still be happy with it. My backups are Volts, and I am completely happy with them too. But OTOH, I know some vapers are more sensitive to changes in power, so I can see the need.

I do see a need for at least some variety of what goes on the battery too. When I started vaping, cartos were all the rage but I didn't like them. I started exploring and found Vision clearos. I have since been using fluxos and Phoenix, and have now added Vivi Novas for the larger capacity. But the options are getting a little out of control. Also though, they are making advances constantly. A year ago most people hated clearos, now the Vivi Nova seems to be the most popular thing around because of improvements to clearos.

So I guess until someone invents a perfect one size fits all vape, we will have to wade through all the choices to find what works for us.

well - Im not trying to be snide but the horse got us around just fine too. really it did - whole continents were conquered by men on horse back and a fair bit of walking on ones own two legs too.

I think its just human nature to always look to improve. sometimes that means our experiments are really latteral changes rather than real improvements but it all leads to innovation in the long run.

I agree that I dont get much more "satisfaction" from one device over another just now. But the vaping world is far different than it was in 08 I when I tried for the first time. Even the mini cig is hugely improved and I know I do enjoy this new generation of products much more than the 08 offerings. Each change is a bit of marketing hype; I have seen many people rave about variable voltage and then claim their sweet spot is 3.4 volts. Well gee, thats just a standard ego battery. But I think overall, though the changes are incremental there IS improvement. Look at what pre-slicing did for bread. :)

Oh yeah, it's a biz now. But that's not a bad thing, it makes for innovation and good prices (as long as it's open to competition...which it is). Innovation makes things better and, generally, more complicated...but even that's not completely true. Take for instance the Silver Bullet or The Boss (from SmartVapes)...they are simple, single-voltage workhorses that people love...and they are fairly/very recent additions. It's not always about complicating things; it's about making them better.
Both the BB and The Boss are economical in that they use off-the-shelf rechargeable batteries that last waaaaaaay longer than a 510 mini.

Heck, even the 510 mini has evolved...they now have Mega batts that outlast the originals by quite a bit.

It's all in what you want. If you don't want bells and whistles, or VV, or VW, or OLED displays...get a simple device and rock on! But, for those who want it, the manufacturers are all about putting it out there.

Also, the variations in devices often make using them more convenient. A key-chain device for stealth vaping when needed, a eGo Twist for VV in a small form factor, Stardust tank for added juice capacity in a small size, etc, etc, etc.

I really can't complain about having too many things to choose from :)

i have no idea where you are going with this post..if you like, go back to non-business marlboro's..im sure they miss you.

I think where he's going is just in the past year there have been an amazing amount of new products on the market. It's huge. There are 'new' better tanks for example that come out almost once a week. Keep in mind we're the test market. I assume he's trying to find out if they're actually better or just hype. It's a valid question without telling someone they should start smoking again.

You get brownie points for not mentioning the blue foam. It seems every time someone talks about e cigs back in the day they mention the aquarium blue foam.

I love the variety as well.

Your thread title makes me wonder what ever happened to 4 non blondes.

Blue foam was easy. There was a mod where you cut a straw and stick it in the cart. Then you get a plastic end cap and cut it to fit the top of the straw (stay with me here) a make a little hole in it. You could actually get 3-4 hits before you spilled liquid all over yourself.

Mean you've noticed that the more things change .. the more they stay the same

All the canges are actually quite suttle, but they allow us to fine tune the vaping experience. Kinda like now you can have a full flavor Camel, and with the flip of a switch have Camel Lites.

But yes, you could take a new DNA-20 mod and make it taste just like a Blu if you wanted to.

My question would be, respectfully put of course, if there isn't any difference between a stick electric cigarette and a Provari, why do so many people fail at quitting analogs while using a stick, then upgrade to an ego or a vv and put down the smokes for good? I know I started with a disposable and I never would have been able to quit using it. Then I moved to an ego and was able to stop smoking, but had cravings often since I wasn't really satisfied. I might have slipped and started smoking again if I hadn't tried Stardusts and a twist. I like Stardusts because I don't have to refill them as often as I did the ego tanks and they don't have that plastic taste. And turning the twist up just a smidgen made a world of difference to me in satisfaction. The thicker, warmer vapor stopped my cravings altogether and I haven't had a cigarette in over seven months. So, I'm sorry, but I don't agree with you. I think there have been great strides that made a big difference in enjoyment, ease of use, and making small parts replaceable so you don't have to replace the whole. Strides that have helped many, many people to quit and will make it easier for many, many more to do so in the future. I welcome any and all improvements.
