Hi!

You say too hot - too hot because you don't like it or hot because you have to change the cotton? If the vape tastes too hot, try building your coils at a higher resistance. If it's the cotton, every other day doesn't sound unusual.

My current go to set-up is an RTA with a 1.5Ω coil at about 4v (regulated mod). If I was using cotton, I would probably change the cotton about every 3rd tankful. I am now using rayon, which I've found lasts longer. It tastes funky to me for the first few drags, but after that, it's good.

A different mod wouldn't change your situation, unless you put a Kick in it or switched to a regulated mod. A mechanical mod starts at 4.2v and the voltage decreases as the battery discharges. End of story. The only option you have to change the wattage with a mechanical is the resistance of your coil.

Maybe your using too much cotton. Juice is not wicking fast enough or your loosing vacuum in the drip well. Foggers aren't the best machining. Maybe the drip channels are too tight. Maybe tighten chimney and back out just a little. At .85 ohm your vaping at 20 watts roughly. Kind of high maybe you should be at about 1.4 ohm which is about 12 watts.

sometimes the cotton is black when i change it and sometimes not, but it begins to taste nasty. like an old cig maybe. but i'm glad to know
i'm doing it right. i've only been vapeing for 6 months and building coils for about 6 weeks. and i live in a very rural area, like 150 miles from
any vape store! thanks for all of your help.

This is the rayon to use if you want to give it try. A little goes a very long way. It's sold at beauty supply places, like Sally's, but you can find it online for less. Just make sure it's the 100% rayon, not the 100% cotton, the boxes look the same except for the fine print.

^^^ This... If I'm reading your post right, you're running a single coil... I'm not even sure how you're pulling that off in the fogger... I mean I guess you can block the two extra channels and air hole, but I have to ask... why not just run dual coils? That's really what it was designed for....

Also, 20 watts on a single coil is really a bit much for the fogger... In my own personal opinion I find it really like about 15-17 watts per coil (30-35 watts total) but most times run around 25 watts total.... meaning only 12.5 watts per coil... That's on 3ohm coils (1.5 total) on a regulated. As I said, just my opinion but I find that's where there fogger really shines. Likewise because of it's design it really loves Rayon... Being able to just tuck a tiny tail of it into the channels.

It's also really sensitive to wicking and takes a while to learn it's insides and outs before really being able to get a good setup.

If your cotton is turning black you're definitely burning it up... Yuck... LOL... Most likely this is a combination of improper setup resulting in poor wicking along with running too much wattage..

So with all that said... Pull it down... Rebuild it with dual coils... Micro's and get the cotton tails just barely tucked into the channels. Shoot for around 30 watts total (.6 ohms total or 1.2 ohms per coil since you're using a mech). That means you'll still be pushing 20 watts when your battery is down to 3.5 where it should be changed anyway...

And in case you're wondering... it's about $11 at Sally's...

With micro's you can get probably 6 wicks per inch... In case you struggle with math... :D that's 72 wicks per foot... or 36,000 wicks per box... Even if you're wicking dual coil that's 18,000 times... Even if you had to wick every other day (and you won't with rayon... but even if you did) that's about 98 years of wicks there... So, yeah... you're good for life... :D

I just wanted to show a close up of the box. Lol! The smallest I found was 40ft. Plenty!

ETA: 6 per inch? I get more than 6 and I have snipped ends everywhere. :)

LOL, I was being conservative... I usually snip an inch off and then separate into wick size pulls. I'm pretty sure I get more than 6 too, but I didn't want anyone accusing me of trying to overstate things calling it a 98 year supply when really it's only a 95 year supply or something... :D
