I like the vivi nova for the cost and to me it tastes great. I bought mine for 12.50 5 mos ago. I rebuild the heads and have been using it every other day since then. The cost of wick and wire is negligible in the long run for the amount you use. You can buy rebuilt heads for about 2.50 and they last for quite awhile. They are just as easy to clean and dryburn. Pbusardo has a great video on the cleaning and rebuilding. I also have the dct and lots of cartos but I rarely use them anymore. It has a whistling noise when you drag on it that drives me up the wall.

They work quite differently. The vivi Nova is a clearomizer, much like the Stardusts or CE4's and CE5's. They have top coils. The atomizer/coil and wick is replaceable when it goes bad.

A carto/tank is a tank with a cartomizer sitting inside it. You replace the cartomizer when it goes bad.

One is only better than the other according to the preference of the user. There is a learning curve with either. There is a fuss factor with either. I personally prefer a cartomizer or cartomizer/tank because I think the flavor is better. I feel the clearomizers mute the flavor.
Other folks feel just the opposite.

What do you use now?

They're real easy to fill, change a flavor, replace attys and produce loads of vapor when powered right. Want to refill, just unscrew the cap, dump more juice in their and screw the cap back on in 30 seconds you're done. Want to change a flavor, just clean with warm water do a gentle dry burn and go. But some people don't like the fact that your getting only pure juice flavor and no "perfume" off of the filler( take a hit off of your carto tank without pressing the fire button and you'll still taste a little flavor) so it may mute the flavor and some people can't deal with this. They also need to be tipped/rolled when they get lower and sometimes when they're full, that annoys some folks. They're fairly cheap and worth a try you might just like them.

A lot of people love the carto tanks and there are many that are just beautiful. I am more into self-sufficiency and don't want to keep purchasing more cartos to keep it working. I really don't notice any favor loss with the vivi. Everyone has their own preference but you should try both and then decide what is best for you and your finances.

Yes on the preference. I just re-wicked a coil with hemp. So far so good. Seems a little more flavor. Gets better the more I hit it. Now to get some wire and replace all my heads.

i made a head for my vivi that was using 80% cotton and 20% hemp. it was sooo great, but now my vivi leaks way to badly since the new replacement tube and my metal "screw on parts" are a tad smaller than the tank tube. so im switching to phoenix rebuildable atomizer.

I've used both and find the cartotanks to be superior in flavor.

The vivi nova is essentially a large tank clearomizer. It uses silica wick strings to carry the juice and flavor to the heating coils.

The carto in a cartotank has polyfill material that holds the juice and flavor, not too different from tightly wound cotton, that surrounds the entire heating coil. So picture that compared to the just a few string wicks; which will carry the most flavor and juice? Strings or a ball of cotton?

This is why I believe vivi nova tanks and clearos in general have muted flavor production for some flavors.

Its not really a hassle. I can unscrew the head, slap on a new one, and good to go. For me rebuilding is part of the fun. I would recoil and re-wick several heads at a time. Currently paying around with different wick materials in search of more flavor. Hopefully next month I will also get some carto tanks, and maybe a RBA. But for now I really enjoy my novas. I have 4 of them. Very low maintenance.

i'll have to pick one up one of these days & try it out.
dunno what you guys mean by 'rebuilding' so, i'll just hafta get one & beat it to death and then see if its worth rebuilding one.. lol.

Rebuilding involves replacing the wire coil and wicks.

Ive never done it, I just slap a new head on my Vivi whenever the old one starts to get funky.

BTW, the vivi is awesome and for 12 bucks it's definitely worth trying it out.

Just like 'Tude, I've tried both, I still have and use the carto tanks, my Vivi's are long gone! Muted flavor and burnt taste, they weren't for me!
I tried rebuilding one, I had to use my 6x eye loop to even see what I was doing, then trying to get the wires in the right places, forget it!
I've got other RBA's that are SO much easier to rebuild and taste so much better!
Try it, you may be one of the people that love them, I can't say!
