whats the correct way to charge a battery?

As the title states... What's the best way?

I know generally with lithium-ion they have no memory, and it doesn't matter. But my bud says he didn't drain his all the way, b4 charging, and now it don't last as long.

I don't know what kind of battery he has.... But couldn't find any relevant info with a google or ecf search.

So what's the recommended procedure?

Drain battery till it shuts off then charge,

Or ... Charge whenever?

Only asking Cruz it would be nice to place my dead or close to dead batts on the charge b4 bed. But of its gonna adversely affect the longevity... I'll pass.

I tend to not let my Li-Ion AW IMR to reach the cutoff of my Provari. 3.4v or around there I'm assuming, as the low voltage light is blinking but the PV is still vaping.

How old is the battery? They will all experience capacity loss AFAIK regardless of how nicely you treat them.

What sort of batteries do you have? It is better to recharge Li batteries before they are fully discharged. As you mentioned, they don't have a "memory". If you are talking about batteries for a mod, then you don't want to discharge below 2.5 volts for safety reasons. Usually its best to stay above 3.0 volts at least.
Charging them overnight while asleep isn't the safest thing to do. It is recommended not to charge them unattended. If the charger or battery go faulty during the night they may cause a fire.

Holy crap! That's a lot of info there. Gonna have to wait till my next bathroom break to peruse that :)

I have ego c batteries, and have the twist on order. They do have an under volt protection. And they just flash 40 times when in need of a charge. So... Should I charge them when they reach 10%ish?
When the battery is between 50-100% the light on the button is whitish, between 49-10% its light blue, and dark blue under 10%. I understand the twist doesn't have this feature, and will just start blinking when its ready. So how will I know when the twist is ready other than it shutting down?

li-ions like to be topped up frequently..the lower it discharges the shorter the battery will last..ie: li-ion batteries that are used to 3.8v and topped up will last longer than batteries that discharge to cut-off and then topped-up..

So basically... Charge them whenever regardless of what % they r at, and I'll be safe? I do this with my smart phone all the time, and have noticed absolutely no decrease in longevity... So that makes sense.

Simple Guidelines for Charging Lithium-based Batteries
  • A portable device should be turned off while charging. This allows the battery to reach the threshold voltage unhindered and reflects the correct saturation current responsible to terminate the charge. A parasitic load confuses the charger.
  • Charge at a moderate temperature. Do not charge below freezing.
  • Lithium-ion does not need to be fully charged; a partial charge is better.
  • Chargers use different methods for “ready” indication. The light signal may not always indicate a full charge.
  • Discontinue using charger and/or battery if the battery gets excessively warm. [My note: This refers to if the charger/battery is too warm to comfortably hold, as chargers/batteries will warm up to a point under normal conditions]
  • Before prolonged storage, apply some charge to bring the pack to about half charge.
  • Over-discharged batteries can be “boosted” to life again. Discard pack if the voltage does not rise to a normal level within a minute while on boost. [My note: You have to be careful with over-discharged batteries, if it refuses to return to life, don't force it because attempting to force it could cause the charger and/or battery to fail/short/etc]

Yep just like a phone..only thing I should mention is if storing li ions 3.6-3.8 is a perfect voltage to discharge to for storage..

I only have Two Rules that I ALWAYS follow when charging batteries.

1 – I put my Charger in something that can’t burn while charging. I put mine in a Glass Casserole Pan. I don’t leave my charger on a Desk or on top of a papers or on a pile of Oily Rags.

2 – I Never charge batteries when I’m not at Home or when I’m asleep.
