What's the deal with Fuzion's Unicorn Blood tasting burnt?

I had seem TONS of people in various threads mention this....and I'm wondering if anyone has found out WHY it does this?

Basically, after vaping on Unicorn Blood for a while (which tastes wonderful btw), at various points it randomly starts getting a burnt taste. This is NOT due to running it on too high of a voltage...UNLESS the unicorn blood specifically needs to be run at 3.2v or less no matter what ohms.

The first time this happened to me, was RIGHT after I opened my pro tank to fill the tank back up. The tank was at about 1/5 full, so I opened it up, filled it to the top, and IMMEDIATELY got the burnt taste.

Second time this happened was after I hadn't vaped in a while (almost an hour or so ) and I picked it up, and got the burnt taste.

Third time was just randomly, in the middle of a tank.

First time I had to dump the tank, nothing helped.

Second time I was able to let it sit, and after 10-15 vapes on occasion, it finally went away.

Third time I took out the coil, removed the flavor wick, washed my coil completely, and I'm vaping it now. It has helped greatly....there is maybe a MILD remnant of the burnt taste in there, but its mostly okay.

I had read tons of threads and posts about this.....but I figured either the people just were having bad luck, or maybe running the voltage too high. I realize now that isn't the case.

Anyway, has anyone figured out what causes this? Is it perhaps the food coloring Fuzion uses? If so, can I opt out of it?

It's the PT, not the juice. I have similar issues with just about everything I put in my PT if I don't give it time to wick back up after a long draw. I hardly use it anymore since it's so finicky. Take out flavor wicks, floods. Put them back in, burns. Blech.
I only drip my good stuff now at home or work, and my ADV of the day goes in a tank with a LR Boge cart.

No, it is NOT the PT.

I have vaped well over 30 e-liquids out of this VERY PT, and I rebuild my own coils. I've NEVER had this problem, not once, with ANY other e-liquid.

Also, as the person right above you said, he was using an evod.

I've seen people using cartos, pro tanks, evods, and many other devices have the same issue. Definitely not the PT.

Do you know if there are any sweeteners or other additives in the juice? I know quite a few flavors have corn syrup in the concentration and that can lead to a burnt taste.

I've never had the pleasure of vaping it, yet, just throwing that out there as I have vapes juices with various "sugars" and that's what always happens. When I recoil and rewick, problem solved, temporarily.

Ok, it must be the juice then... Tastes burnt ALL THE TIME right??? No?... Then it's the way your PT is set up. If you set the PT up with the PERFECT amount of flavor wick, you'll be ok. If not, you'll have issues just like you will with ANY other juice out there.

Either we are misunderstanding each other....or you are failing to read my post :(

You said, " If not, you'll have issues just like you will with ANY other juice out there"

I already specifically said, I've been using my pro tank for 6 months, and have run over 500mL of e-liquid through it, over 30 variations....and I haven't once come across this problem with ANY liquid besides Unicorn Blood.

You keep saying it is an issue with the pro tank. If I've successfully run 500mL of liquid without ANY problem.....and unicorn blood is consistency having problems.....do you STILL come to the same conclusion?

edit: And Tony....I think we might be just misunderstanding each other, maybe....lol. It VERY WELL could be a wicking issue....however, if unicorn blood is the ONLY e-liquid out of 30+ liquids to have that issue.....even if it wicks better with an RBA....I still consider that a problem with UNICORN blood.....NOT a delivery device that has NO issues with ANY e-liquids beside that specific one.

The burnt taste is an extremely common and unfortunate problem many people seem to have. I've done a few searches on ECF, and there are quite a few people who have this same problem, regardless of delivery device.

I can ALMOST guarantee that is the problem right there. I haven't heard anyone else think of this either....but EACH TIME the burnt taste has a burnt sucrose/sugar like taste.

Not only is there FOOD COLORING in unicorn blood, but I believe there is a sugar additive in there as well, whether fuzion adds it manually, or it comes in the flavoring they use, I'm not sure.....but I believe it is a sugar additive that is RARELY used in eliquid. It has a distinct taste, and the burnt taste has that sucrose/sugar burnt taste like I mention.

Also, it could VERY well be a wicking issue. It seems like perhaps the unicorn blood might have trouble wicking properly.....and I likely think it might be due to some additive in there, whether it be the food coloring or the sugar additive.

It is a shame, really - because unicorn blood is one of the best tasting liqiuds I've ever tried. I might order it again, and try running it through a carto tank or an RBA when I get one......since I don't have an RBA right now though, I'll just put off on ordering it again until later on down the road. Sad :(

honestly I don't know, it seems to have some odd wicking issue as I've vaped the unicorns blood in a vivi nova, a kanger pro, an evod and even just a cartomizer (btw it's awesome in a cartomizer)

the the top coil like vivi nova just have to remember to slowly tip and swirl it around between vapes....in the bottom coil tanks...not sure how to keep it on the flavor wick.

I agree on a lot of counts here. Unicorn Blood is absolutely amazing when it's not burning in a BCC. Happens to me with almost every tankful of an evod or protank. I have had pretty good luck so far with an ikenvape platinum LR carto however. I do also run it at a lot lower voltage than I do with any other juice in the same device no matte what delivery system I am using. It's a shame, really. I so love this juice but get frustrated with it too.

Must be. :) :toast:
I have problems with pretty much everything I put through my PT until I find a sweet spot with the wicking. Thick 100% VG juices, I run no flavorwicks, and have to do a few dry pulls in between. But then there's others that are thinner, and I have to run flavorwicks and still get flooding. I have a couple juices that 50/50 - 60/40 and those are the only juices I can use in it.
I've been dripping all my Fuzion stuff on cotton for awhile now, and honestly, wouldn't vape it any other way.

I could DEFINITELY see problems w/ wicking with 100% VG and the PT.

I guess I'm fortunate, in that I pretty much ONLY vape 50/50, or close to. Ive vaped everything from all VG, to all PG, and I found that 50/50, or even 60/40 either way, works perfectly for me. Must be because I primarily use my pro tank as my main delivery device, I don't know, but I found this to be my sweet spot :) It makes even more sense after your last reply as well.

Well, it seems pretty much everyone seems to agree with you , in that unicorn bood has a tough time in bottom coil clearos. I think it just isn't wicking like other eliquids do.

You know what, since I got a carto tank recently (my first one), and I have it working real well right now.....I think I'm going to go ahead and order Unicorn Blood within a week or so, and use it solely in the carto tank, and see how it does. I'll report back in this thread....because now I'm really curious.

P.S. For anyone who might be having issues with the pro tank....here is what I do. I build my coils with 2mm silica wick, and 32g kanthal. I do a 4/5 wrap , which comes out to RIGHT at about 1.8ohms. I then vape WITHOUT any flavor wick, until after the first tank, and then I add a few split strands from left over 2mm silica (really thin strands). I also vape primarily 50/50 liquids. I have to say , I get more flavor and vapor than from anything else I've ever tried....

Thanks for the replies everyone :)

Oh yea, and in case anyone is interested in ordering from fuzion....out of the 6 samplers I got....every other liquid vaped just great in the PT. If you get unicorn blood, you might want to takes these guys advice and use something besides a BCC

This thread was in no way meant to discourage anyone from ordering from fuzion. They have some of the best tasting liquid I've ever had.

Just in case anyone is interested, if you abbreviate protank to PT, it confuses the really neat forum translator. It comes out as as pass through, not protank. I'm sure the oldtimers would never be confused, but what about those poor, purple donkeys?

lol! never noticed that! Sorry, I didn't even realize there WAS a "really neat forum translator". LOL!, shows how much I know after 3+ years

Try contacting the vendor. They may work with you if it is something in the juice that can be substituted, or give you a workaround. It is worth a shot if you love the juice.
