This may seem like a dumb question, but what is the difference between a clearomizer and a cartomizer? I am confused.

somehow simple explanation:
Clearomizer have tanks that hold ejuice, which feed a wick into the atomizer head on the device.
Unlike cartomizers, they do not have any poly-fil material inside the tank. This makes it a little easier to get the clean, natural flavors of your eliquids. It also reduces the chances you will get that burnt flavor when your eliquid runs low, since you wont start burning the filler material.

A clearomizer is a clear tank with some sort of heating coil and wicks, a cartomizer is a little doo-hickey stuffed with a cotton like filler material. The cartomizer is about the size and shape of a cigarette filter.
To give the third possible tidbit here - a cartotank is a tank with a cylindrical opening that slides on to a cartomizer with a hole punched in the side. You then fill the tank with juice and it continuously feeds the cartomizer via the punched hole for the same type of vape with the capacity of a tank.

cartomizer is shaped/sized like the filter part of a cigarette;
contains atomizer and wicking/filler material;
it may be prefilled with eliquid or it may be blank for you to put your own liquid.
they are disposable.
pre-punched cartomizers have holes in them to work inside a carto tank; the liquid goes in the tank, and get to the atomizer via the holes in the cartomizer
some disposable clearomizers are also referred to as cartomizers- because they are disposable so you use it almost the same as a blank cartomizer.

A carto is used like a dripper - unless you use a carto tank.
In which case, IMHO, cartos provide a much better vape
