uploadfromtaptalk1400221174734.jpgI have an infinite stingray clone and the past few days it's been hit and miss when I go to fire it. I just took my switch apart to find that the magnets looks dirty, but their not. It looks like instead their arching with each other instead of fully touching. Is there a way to stop this or do they need to be replaced?

No responses huh? Interesting.

Couple of things I see, but can't confirm due to the angle of the image... so both just "possibles". ;-)

The quality of magnets nickel plating appears poor... are the conduction marks on the plating surface, or is the plating burned off? Nickel, although not a bad conductor... isn't real high on the list of preferred ones.

The magnets should, preferably, not actually "touch". A properly done magnetic button will have one or both magnets recessed, so that the primary conductive surface is the surrounding copper, brass, silver... what ever the OE contact happens to be, but not the magnets themselves.
A good example of this is one of the oldest and best magnetic button mods there is... the Madz Modz Nzonic, where both opposing magnets are well recessed into their large, silver plated brass contact surfaces.

These magnets sit just above the their bases. If I run my finger across the spots it's a rough texture. I guess I just got a bad switch. I love this mod, is there any way I can fix it? I was thinking of melting soider thinly on the magnets to cover, but I wasn't sure if this would help.

Any way you have the capability to sink the magnets deeper? Another possible is to find thinner magnets. And yet another... if the magnets can be removed... is there a big wad of glue or something under them... holding them higher than they should be?

I've never seen a Stingray clone... so not a clue on the details.

In my Stingray clone the magnets are slightly recessed.

Removing the magnets without damaging them looks difficult.

Sure looks like it. My bottom (switch side) magnet looks to be sticking up a little. If I put the two together outside of the switch, the magnets touch, the magnet "cases" never touch.

Yep, that's the opposite of mine. I couldn't get my magnets to touch if I tried.

Good to know what their not supposed to lol. I did find a site that sells new magnet and switches http://www.fatdaddyvapes.com/shop.html?m

Not sure if I can find them somewhere else, or if the original stuff would fit on a clone.

Ah well... it appears you're down to:

1. Find thinner magnets... assuming you can get the old ones out, leaving clean holes.
2. If you have a drill press, vice and the right size facing mill, you can replicate a vertical mill... at least well enough to spot face the holes deeper.
3. Buy a tube of silver conductive grease, applied to act as both an anti-corrosive and a (hopefully) improved continuity contact surface. (cheaper from Amazon)
4. If you can't "lower the bridge, raise the river"... in other words, find a way to raise a contact surface above a magnet, like... for example, with a (very) thin copper washer, silver soldered in place, on one of the contacts.
5. Get one larger diameter, very thin, high quality magnet to act as a "replaceable" contact.

6. Out of ideas. Good luck! :)
