What's with the foul taste that you get from cartomizers after a while?

I saw a youtube video, where a guy said that refilling them before they dry out stops this from happening.

I tried that but it didn't seem to work. It still happned after a (relatively short) while.

Also, I understand that they're designed to be disposable.

Will boiling them once the foul taste starts save them?

Cartomizers WERE designed to be disposable, so how many times you can refill is really undetermined. Each one will be different based on a TON of variables. However, it doesn't mean the cartomizer is toast.

I can refill some carts 2-3 times...others almost 20. What can ya do?

Boiling is a good idea, since it will remove ALL previous juice from the cart, and you can start fresh. If, after boiling, the cartomizer still tastes horrid after refilling, then yes, the cartomizer is dead.

Getting decent blank cartomizers is important, however every now and then you are going to get some that are duds.

Two things - some cartomizers have an underflavor that isn't good. Some people don't taste it as strongly as others do. The other thing is burning the filler. You'll see this as browning, singing of the filler when you open it up for refilling - throw it out.

With cartomizers, esp. but with all refills really - refill when there's a drop in flavor before you get the 'dry atty burnt' taste.

Carto filler can be removed...but I think it's pure luck if you succeed or fail. I did an autopsy on a recently deceased carto and pulled out the filler but managed to keep the straw, wick and straw wrap undamaged. I think it was pure luck though and if I tried to duplicate it on a live carto I'd surely be charged with murder and found very very guilty by a jury of my peers.
