All I can say is that if your preferring to use factory stock heads in any tank whether they are single, dual or vertical your in for a rough ride since they are mass produced by the kajillions with no concern of the end result. I've been rebuilding and using my protanks(1&2) for eons now without any issues what so ever but thats me. Single bottom coil attys that are rebuildable to get you started then from there once learned how to rebuild something easy like a protank head then advance to more sophisticated builds like in a dripper or kayfun will just fall into line.
Good luck with what tank you could want but I get consistent hit after hit with my rebuilt protanks tank after tank and can vape the juice right down to the last drop.

Totally agree with AlterUrEgo statement about stock coils, regardless of tank stock coils at times can leave a lot to be desired.

My preference is the Kanger EMOW Mega, 19mm diamater looks great on my iStick and I rebuild the enclosed dual coils to a vertical coil wicked with japanese cotton. Suits my needs and can't think of any other reason to use anything else.

Love my EMOW Mega's too! Though I don't rebuild the coils. But they work well enough that as of now I don't really need to.

Well, here goes. :) I use both sizes of the Nautilus and do prime with a couple of drops of juice in the coils before inserting in chimney. Also do the slow gentle pull without power a couple of times before using LOW power and gradually increasing it to taste and vapor. Once I get low in juice but BEFORE I'm done, I give the top cap where tip goes in a quarter turn to losen a tad to break seal so it's not a PITA to take apart!

I also use ProTank 2's and Davides when I want to vape my darker, heavier juices as I do rebuild the coils with 30 Kanthal and cellu cotton (rayon). However, I also use them with the NON Aspire BVC's by using the Aspire converter ring and airflow base......in effect converting these tanks into mini Nautiluses. :D

I've gotten BVC's from 4 different sources; and, knock on wood, all were genuine and did what they were suppose to do. Mine don't last nearly as long as others report because I chain vape......It's become my "occupation"! :p

I agree AlterUrEgo. the stock coils are crappy. where do you get your supplies? I jumped right into rebuilding coils (just the small kanger single ones...so far) about a month after i started vaping in April '14. Where do you get your supplies at? I get all of my from lightning vapes.

I get my supplies from co-ops here in ECF, Facebook and other forums, they have done me well over the 18 months I've been vaping,(over 30 different coops). I get my wire from Temco. Bought assorted sizes of silica from Crazy Wire Company through reviews they had good silica but don't use silica no more, ekowool through a FB coop so its the real Russian product not a knockoff you can get. Hemp fiber through a ECF coop that I've been happily rebuilding with for over a year and still build PT heads with hemp. I now enjoy rayon in my kayfun builds but still use hemp in my PT heads.
The only non coop PV I bought was my first K100 and that was from fasttech long time ago but all other PV's I have were coop bought.
Batteries I've bought are all from coops for 1/2 the price of vendor.
Attys, RBA and RDA all bought through coops.
I did buy some clearos when I first started vaping from a vendor and IMO didn't get what I was suppose to so have shy'd away from vendors along with the learning curve over the 18 months have taught me a lot about vaping and what to expect from the product you've bought.
Its not the money saved in buying from co-ops but being able to open your vapemail and see you get EXACTLY what you've paid for and not some bait and switch crap I'm still reading about in social networks.
I do buy juice from vendors since I don't want to get into DIY juice....yet :)

Drob, I have a couple full-sized and one mini Nauti. They're o.k. for me, but I really like my Protank 2's. I rebuild the heads, and I have airflow controllers. They give me about as good a vape as the Nauti, and rebuilding the coils costs me pennies :) I do have a few kayfun clones. The 3.1ES is my best one, but it's got the airflow control on it. My lite doesn't have airflow, but I managed to build a vertical coil, and it does o.k. I have one of my mini's configured as a dripper right now, and that's probably as good as I'm going to get from it.

I find the Nautis get that burnt taste if I don't prime the wick well enough. I am kind of impatient when I fill a tank, so I'm guessing it's mostly my own fault. ;)

If you already re-build your protank heads, instead of using the adapter to use the BVC coils, re-build the protank heads vertical. I do it with my Kanger EMOW mega and the vape is amazing

The instructions I received at the local vape shop when I purchased my nautilus tanks (BVC heads) has worked well so far.

1. Wash new tank (except head) with soap and hot water before first use and dry thoroughly.
2. Prime new head with 3-4 drops of juice, then fill tank and allow to soak for a couple minutes.
3. Start vaping on the new head at a lower volt/watt setting than your target range. Then increase power a few steps at at time until your target range is reached.
4. General rule of thumb is to run the tank at 4.5-5.5 volts and 10.5-11.5 watts. But others have excellent results at other settings.
5. Clean the tank every third time you fill and dry thoroughly.
6. Heads last longer on lighter colored and less sweet juices. ( Still going strong on a head using a light colored hazelnut juice for 3 weeks. Another head
started wicking slower after a little over 1 week with a very dark juice.)
7. Fake Aspire hardware is very common and is very hit and miss on quality. Be sure you are buying the real deal and even then Aspire turns out a few duds.

I'm still relatively a newb to vaping, but this is what has worked for me. Probably someone with more experience can add more.

I have 2 protanks and haven't had great luck with them. Constantly gurgling, leaking and not much vapor. You got any suggestions on what to do about it? I would love to give them another shot once they're functioning right, and how exactly do I rebuild the heads on them?

The key for me, personally, has been to drip at least 4 or 5 drops of juice right into the coil before assembling. Then fill the tank and let sit for 15 minutes or so. Prime with a few puffs without hitting the button, start off with battery at low voltage/wattage and work your way up - as others have mentioned. The high VG juices may not be a good fit for these coils if you tend to chain vape. Thinner (higher PG) juices seem to do better.

Drob,

Gurgling could be that things aren't tightened down sufficiently (or you've got condensation in the chimney.) You want connections (including the coil) snug, but not over-tight. Re: the condensation, I tend to let go of the fire button before I finish my draw to help pull out a little extra vapor. Also, slow, easy draws. It's different that taking a drag on a cigarette. You can pull a cigarette pretty hard, but if you pull too hard on a tank, you could flood it.

I learned to rebuild the kanger heads from reading through these two areas:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/coil-builds/432047-my-bad-pictorial-evod-rewicking-cotton-recoiling.html

and

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/brookj1986/6066-simple-protank-coil-replacement.html

I use just a wisp of cotton, no more than about 1/2 my pinkie fingernail (and I have kinda big hands for a girl....) Make sure the fibers are flowing from coil end to end.

When I first started, I checked my resistance with the MVP. I do have a "real" ohmmeter now, but since I build to about 1.8Ω, I feel the MVP can safely check that. And, my MVP is pretty accurate - never more than 0.1Ω difference from my ohmmeter.

I picked up airflow controllers from Sweet-Vapes the other day. I "bucked up" for the V3 (less than $5 each). The V1 controllers (I have some of them as well) are less than $3. Both seem to work well for me (but the V3 looks "cooler" :D)
