When can I expect to be able to taste more and for my tastes to change?

I realize this is probably a silly question to ask since it's so individual, but I'm wondering when I will finally be able to taste and smell things better concerning my juice. I quit analogs just under two weeks ago, and have been vaping exclusively. Everything seems to either taste like maple or sugar but the hangsen tobacco flavors I've tried all taste like varying degrees of burnt or buttered popcorn.

I only have a regular joyetech ego C kit at the moment, but will be ordering something with VV or VV/VW soon. Will the increased voltage or wattage make a huge difference in taste?

everyone is different plus it's changing of seasons...cold/flu time yadda yadda

I'd say to be safe average 1 to 2 months to clear all the gunk out of your lungs and nasal cavities.

Drink plenty of water, take decongestants, drink hot sauce

as far as taste....vv is nice because yes, different juices can taste better at different vv as well as different juice devices work better at different vv....

Thanks, Shadav. Even as a smoker for nearly 20 years, I'd rarely get a cold - maybe once a year at most. I have noticed wierd things lately though like one of my nostrils (and only one) getting all clogged up to the point where I have to use decongestants (sorry to be gross). I also use hot sauce like it's going out of style so hopefully I will be able to taste and smell again soon! Maybe for the first time since I was 14 :)

I read the Ocelot's dripping guide, and based on her recommendations I have some dripping atomizers on order. I'm hoping that helps too with the taste. Mostly I can only smell the vapor and the flavor is super super weak on clearos, boge 510 Lr cartos, and the ego c tanks that came with my kit.

I agree with everything that Ahadav said. Your taste buds need time to heal and recover from years of smoking, and everyone's time of recovery is different. I will make a couple other suggestions for you:

Experiment with different flavors other than just tobacco flavors. There's no way to reproduce the taste/flavor of a real cigarette or tobacco. I recommend trying some fruit, candy, desert, coffee, etc. Many new vapors find once they have quit cigarettes they want nothing to do with how a cigarette tasted.

Using your sense of smell during exhale of your vapor can assist your perception of e-liquid flavorings. So during your exhale, allow some of the vapor to be released through your nose.

Vaping can dry out your mouth, so drink plenty of water. Dry mouth will mute your ability to taste flavors.

Flavors such as Cinnamon, Menthol, and Mint are stronger flavors if you are at a point where you are not tasting anything. Many flavors have one or the other of these in their mix.

Swish with original listerine. Your probably going through a bit of vapors tongue.

Funny you mention that - i've been using a lot more mouthwash lately (the colgate optic white stuff). Is listerine better for getting rid of this vapors' tongue? What else would you recommend?

Getting a more powerful mod might enhance the flavor you get some. Flavor is more a function of the device you attach to the mod rather than the mod itself.

So if you take what ever topper you have on your ego c, and slap it on a Vamo and crank it up to 6v you aren't going to get the best flavor, it's probably going to end up tasting burnt and awful. I am not 100% sure but your ego c probably puts out a steady 3.7 volts, and you might get some better flavor if you could adjust it to 4v.-4.2v depending on the resistance of the clearomizer or atomizer you are using. Like I said I am not familiar with the ego c so I am not entirely sure what screws on top of the battery.

Clearomizers are going to give you good flavor. That will improve if you bill your own coils for them, but that's not a requirement for good flavor, so if it seems daunting to you don't feel like you are missing out on something uber amazing.

RBA's and RDA's will give you even more flavor, but those require wrapping your own coils. It's not all that difficult just takes some practice.

You could also try carto tanks, I can't speak to the flavor you get from them personally but some people swear by them. They don''t require any building of coils.

There are loads of Denver folks on here, I don't officially live here, but I am out here for work for a few months, enjoy today's warmish weather!

I suppose it is different for everyone but when I first started I had no trouble tasting the different flavored juice. I also noticed only a few days after starting that I could taste food A LOT more than before, which is quite nice. I hear for others it takes months but I wasn't ever really a heavy smoker, only about half a pack a day, and smoked for only around 6-7 years compared to others' 20+ years of smoking, if that makes any difference...

As for the benefits of VV/VW; I started with an MVP 2 so I have not been without those features, I can see how it is a definite benefit over devices that do not have it, at least when you're getting started. Different juices and coils require different amounts of power to get the best out of them and without some way of adjusting it, you're missing out. Definitely pick one up when you get the chance!

Thanks, guys. So far the cheap CE4 clearo I have seems to produce the most flavor, and I have one evod that I'm saving for a juice I really like but haven't found yet. I'll keep trying new stuff to see what I like. Although it's a lot of ordering, it's barely a drop in the bucket compared to the $80+ I used to spend per week on analogs. I'm going all in on this vaping thing and I want it to work more than anything!

Personally I found the listerine to work better (must be the original) Also if my mouth feels a bit dried out from vaping a lot I find that listerine kind of helps because it is so strong that it kind of makes my mouth salivate.
Some people on here have suggested spicy foods help too.
Also I prefer fruity flavors many of them sour fruity flavors.

Maybe try ordering some flavors from a different company?

Thanks - I'll put original listerine on my grocery list. All I pretty much eat is spicy food - after years and years of smoking that's about all I can taste. It sucks, but I think I did some pretty good damage to myself over the years with smoking.

I'm still on the hunt for new flavors to try, and I really haven't found anything I love yet. Here's what I've tried to date -

Timeless Vapors
- RY4 -- hated at first, now it's decent
- Sin Tobacco -- like a little more
- Applewood Tobacco -- not bad but doesn't satisfy the cravings
- Blueberry Crisp -- haven't tried just yet but will soon

Local vape shop
- Rocky Mountain Medium -- yuck, maybe needs to steep more
- Kona Coffee -- sometimes tastes good in the morning, sometimes tastes like bad breath - yuck

Vaporheads
- Europe Tobacco VT3 -- tastes like cologne, will try again in a week but this may be a winner

Hangsen
- RY6, Turkish Blended, USA Mix, Highway T5 -- all taste like varying degrees of burnt to buttered and burnt popcorn

AVE
- Boba's Bounty -- should arrive today!

I think I need to try a menthol at some point too -- I've heard that also helps with the loss of taste (from what I've read on here)

When I first quit smoking, I had quite the lack of taste. Though it returned, during my period of regaining it, the best tasting just I had was...

Venulta! It was like a vanilla Nutella mix, one of the local vap stores here sold, and my god was it amazing. I loved the taste so much, and the pricing, I switched right over to Vaping, and never looked back. I feel like people who are first switching really seem to have a taste for nuttier, or heartier tastes, then the fruitier ones, which you'll eventually have a taste for (I've been making my own Peach Rings flavor, personally my current favorite) But look into some fine tobacco blends or something I recommended earlier! Fruity things right as you quitting can throw people off, and really drive them away.

Anyways, happy vaping.
