When did the "carto tank" first make its appearance?

I cant give you the exact date but I can tell you that they originated right here on these very forums a couple of years ago. Modders took a test tube and rubber grommets and made the first one. They punched their own holes in a cartomizer and the rest was history. Gotta love good old American ingenuity.

You may want to send Scubabatdan a pm and ask him as he's still VERY active in the modders forum where it originated.

Thats why I get a little bent out of shape when someone calls a clearo tank a tank.....Besides the obvious confusion it causes.....carto tanks have been around longer and are much more deserving of the name than a redesigned clearomizer from China IMO.

I think the first marketed incarnation was the MAP tank that used modified CE2 cartos. From there, I cannot recall the next model. I had an original MAP tank and I still have a MAP carto tank. Dunno what ever happened to the original MAP. There weren't o-rings on the inside. The cartos had to be pressed in. Real PITA.

That is sheer 110% MacGuyver American ingenuity right there. Gad, would I love to sit down and hear their story. "Maan, I was eatin' some Cheetos, and..."

I know right? I was looking at small piezo electric micro pumps to deliver juice and then BAM! These come on the market and are sheer genius in their simplicity.

Also I was mistaken on the test tubes...it was actually plastic syringes.

I'm not sure when it was first mass produced, but Vaporesence often claims to be the first original manufacturer of the cartotank, with the traditional end caps and o-rings.

Not long after, Smoktech made their entry into the market, and included one of their new dual coil cartomizers as part of a marketing program. The tank was called a DCT, or dual coil tank. The marketing program and combo obviously was a success, as a generic XL length cartotank is now synonomous with DCT, much like Bandaid is with adhesive bandage and Q-Tip is with cotton-tipped applicator sticks.
