Hi, I've been vaping for 5 years. I just started sub ohming with a atlantis with a battery 3.8 to 5v. I've read about pg effects with high voltage causing formaldehyde (provided by Mount Vapor Baker site). Can anyone direct me to the appropriate thread for this info about formaldehyde. I met a smoker today that informed me about the formaldehyde vapor scare. And thats why he hasn't tried vaping. I'm concerned about sources based on more opinion than fact. I'm a vaper and proud to be one but still I have some concerns. I would like accurate sources to educate myself and others. News sources on this subject give an obvious since of scare tatics. I've heard rumors Pharma is feeling threatened too and may be the cause of this scare. Proper research is key to defending your right to vape. Please help. I also share concern of these craft ejuices. Some don't tell you what the vg/pg ratio is and I hate not knowing what they put in it. The pricing is ridiculous as well.

Welcome DrCupcake81!
There is a good deal of info about this here on ECF which you can access with the search feature. What it boils down to is this: a researcher was able to produce formaldehyde components in his lab by heating e-juice to levels that would never happen vaping in real life. The anti-vaping propaganda machine ran with it from there.
I'll dig up some links for you if no one else posts them.

Thanks Philoshop! I get concerned about propaganda everytime I hear something bad about ecigs. Meaning how accurate or correctly testing them,Its especially hard for vapers who want real proof about what they are putting into their bodies. I hate these scare tactics.

It's a "scare," and that's all it is. I suppose if you burn your wick to charcoal as they did with machine testing, you might get some bad stuff, maybe even some formaldehyde, but humans have these things called tastebuds, and I really doubt that any living person is going to want to inhale something like that -- it would taste like burnt chemicals, ashes, or worse. So if you routinely get nasty dry hits and then just keep vaping that, you might have something to worry about. If you fix it the minute you have a suggestion of a dry hit, I'd say you're all clear. The biggest worry would seem to be for those who vape at very high wattages, and lung hit monster clouds. For the "regular" vaper who takes moderate care with their gear and the quality of their vape, I really don't see any particular problem, and I believe that *objective, unbiased* research has found much the same.

Many thanks, Firestorm!

I tried to reply to your post, but I guess I'm not allowed to since there are links in your original post :( Cest la vie. I'm fairly sure my Noob status will expire with this post [fingers crossed].

I was discussing this scare with my best friend over lunch just the other day. Those links you posted will be an awesome addition. It's always good to have original source material rather than conjecture and rumor anytime you can ;) Thanks again!
