Welcome sofreshsoclean :)

I have been vaping exclusively for 11 months, but I dabbled off and on over the past 4+ years. I smoked about a pack a day for about 25 years prior. Smoking was "cool", and "all my friends did it" I watched my uncle die from lung cancer a couple of years ago (he was a pipe smoker) and I don't want that same fate. Yes, there may be risks involved with vaping - thank you for educating yourself, rather than making blanket statements.

IMO, the risks from vaping are significantly less than the risks with continuing to smoke. I didn't try patches or gum or prescription medications. I like the "hand-to-mouth" aspect of smoking. Which, is why I'm comfortable with vaping. Will I ever drop to zero nic? I don't know. I'm at a pretty low level (and started at a pretty low level) of about 10mg. I don't like the taste of more nic (and I don't like the jitters - nic sick - of it either.)

I build my own coils (wicked with cotton or organic Japanese cotton) and make my own juice (so I know what's going in it - as much as I know what's in the components of the juice.) I'm comfortable with it. If something does come of it - that will be my burden to bear. But, my senses are cleaner - things taste better, smell better. My clothes and car don't reek, and my better half no longer has to "kiss an ashtray" All wins in my book...

My worry of the formaldehyde claim is that I always see youtubers claiming noone could even enjoy higher than 5v, however I use mine comfortably on 15 watts or rather 6volts. But see I hit it like I smoked cigarettes. I hit with mouth and then inhale into lungs. Now I did try to inhale directly into lungs like these youtubers were doing and theyre right its unbearable, but I like hitting into mouth first then inhaling better so does this mean I am subject to high levels of formaldehyde? If I put it below 5v and try to hit it like i usually do (mouth first) I cant even feel it.

DR. F is working on a study which should answer these questions. My guess is many will not like the results, however...

How much wattage the coil can take depends on the coil.
The older single coils that used to come with the protanks, and ce4's etc were thin wire 5 watt coils.

With dual coils, or with coils you make yourself using 30, 28, or thicker gauge wire, they take more power.

When I got into vaping a year and a half ago I never considered it was like taking vitamins. But I do have two examples from my own house that prove it is a whole lot better than smoking. One was wife was on 3 puffers four times a day and now she is on zero puffers. Out and about and my vaporizer is getting low I do not panic anymore like I did when running out of smokes. Studies seem to say that you have a 5 to 15% change of cancer with an esmoke. That's a whole lot better than the 50% chance with smokes.

Summer bumpdate.

Didn't actually jump in to the vape wagon in february but swedish snus wagon instead (full recommendation for that as a quitting method).

But been still following the vaping scene and temp control revolution intensively and just placed an order for a friend whom i need to get rid of cigs. Package included discounted vaporshark rdna 40, subtank nano + tc coils and some mountain oak vapors juices.

The long awaited temp study by Farsalinos seems to have had surprisingly little attention here. Maybe the results were something that everyone already knew or people might be slightly disappointed because the aldehyde issue wasn't completely debunked (or it is still a thing to remember). Anyway I think temp control devices are the way to deal and avoid possible risks with over heating.

Also glad to see that juices with acetoin/ap/da are getting more critical attention and more vendors are stepping up their game. I +1 everything said in the sticky about newbies not posting business ideas and I'm wondering if there's a single store selling only the most safe (according to current scientific knowledge) vaping stuff. Yea isticks sell well but that could be good marketing too.

Next thing I'd like to see would be a study covering coil materials like nickel and titanium with temp control devices and their behavior with temperature and e liquid.
