I wish I knew the answer!

I have been vaping for about 5 weeks now. I have purchased the sentinel v3.5 mod
4 MNKE batteries, the Nimbus RDA, IGO-W RDA, Helios RDA, drip tips, 300-400ml of juice!
Ohm box reader, blow torch, dental tools, wick, wire, multimeter,battery cases,
A wooden cup holder for the car, and that's not even mentioning I bought a vision spinner to begin with
A couple protank 2's! I'm sure there is more! Tomorrow I pick up a AGAT+ genesis style atty, and I'm going to the convention
In Anaheim with a pocket full of cash!

Is this responsible? Mmmm probably not!
Am I having fun? YESS!!!
Am I still chewing two cans of tobacco a day killing myself? NOOO!!!
Is my wife happy? Am I more happy? YESSS!!!
I chewed for 11 years and tried everything to quit!

I am so grateful that I could make this a hobby! Not only do i truly believe that vaping is a miracle in design, but I can have fun while doing it?!?!?

After this convention I plan on slowing my roll a little.

So I've got a bit overboard as of late.

I've been using KGO-VVs and Vivi Novas for like a year off and on, but always ended up back on cigarettes, especially when they stopped working.

I finally relented and ordered a ProVari, and the floodgates broke, ordered a few different RBAs, a DNA20 mod etc etc.

I feel like at this point I have just about everything I could possibly need aside from occasional restocks of wicks/wires/cartos and maybe 1-2 more carto tanks just to switch flavors easier. (Dear god SvoeMesto/GG, please don't release a new more badass RBA anytime soon. PLEASE). And then Juice, though I placed a big order from MtBaker and should have enough for like a year ^_^.

Anyway, PLEASE tell me I've reached the affordable part. I think I'm gonna have to put my credit cards in the freezer.

Any tips on how to not want a new toy each week?

Don't worry about it, lol.
I just think of how much it costs for surgery, radiation and chemotherapy treatments and I know that I haven't come anywhere close to spending too much on vape gear.
But that's my rationalizations

I have a Vamo, vv Gripper, Spinner, Twist and other regular ego batteries. I have now been able to curtail my spending on mods. I just buy e-juice and an occasional evod and I am good to go as long as my batteries do. You just have to draw a line. Try to get vape mail out of your head.

The best thing you can do and I hate to say this because I love ecf is to GET OFF OF ECF.

The more "oh look how cool that is" stuff you see the more stuff you are going to want.

So come here now and again if you have a legitimate question...if you stay off of ecf you will stay out of hobby-mode lol.

REO+RM2 was all it took to get me to stop caring about what else has been released. Haven't looked for anything new in the 2 months I have had this setup.

I smoked about a carton a week, roughly $70 where I live. That's $280 a month. Since I started vaping, I've gotten an ego set, MVP, SID, a Sigelei mech, and I have a REO on the way that I found on the classies. Add in some clearos, cartotanks, juices, multimeter, some starter supplies for building wicks and coils, and an RSST, and I still haven't even come close to what I would have spent on cigarettes since I switched on 6/3. It might seem like I'm spending up a storm, as I'm always waiting on vapemail of some sort, but really, I'm decidedly ahead of the game, moneywise. And hey, if the hobby/collector aspect of it helps keep me off smokes, I'd still be willing to spend more on it. Also, eventually, even as a hobby, the vape spending WILL trickle off as the "must have" devices and delivery systems stack up in the collection, whereas cigarettes will likely keep getting more expensive, and that expense NEVER trickles off until you stop buying them!

There are phases in this , like many other parts to the manimal behavior .

As we all know smoking is not only additive , it has behaviors , rituals and social interactions .
Replacing that is no mean feat , and has stumped some of the best of us .
Now here comes the shopping physiology ...

Some humans find that investing in the decision to change , reenforces the will to uphold the change .
It is the same for learning , researching , tuning , modding ....
Purchasing something of hundreds in value will cetaintly make you try it to its' fullest .

Some find that to let our brains obsess about this kind of folly provides positive reinforcement .... will power .

When it's done , then move on and back to the old routine

I read something on a forum that resonated , if you give someone a vaping set up they are less likely to quit than if they buy their own .....

....and we are back to shopping

The moment you started buying things that were still around at the end of the Day.
Batteries, Chargers, Tanks,etc. All lasting much much longer than even a carton or 10 of smokes!

It's funny how it goes - I'm at about the three month mark I'm definitely in the black. I owe that to determining my preferences quickly and finding juices that I like right away (luck on both counts), and being more than happy to settle for good enough (once the SVD was acquired). For the foreseeable future, I should just need juice, replacement protank and t5 heads, and a few 18650s down the road. It sounds like you're enjoying the process though, so if it isn't broken...

In terms of not wanting something new each week, I just try to appreciate what I already have AND frequently remind myself that once you cross a certain threshold most devices will do the same thing, albeit in subtly different ways. Just work on determining what's "enough" for you and be honest in terms of evaluating whether you've already got that whenever you feel tempted by shiny things

In terms of not wanting something new each week, I just try to appreciate what I already have AND frequently remind myself that once you cross a certain threshold most devices will do the same thing, albeit in subtly different ways.

One thing I'm starting to do is concentrate on the steeping part or juice buying, because juice is where my spending issue lies. So if I place two orders a month and steep those juices for two weeks, it's like I get vapemail by just trying the juices I have steeping. This is what I tell myself anyway...

For me, this had to be a cost effective way of quitting smoking. So far, it has. Despite me getting a little somethin' somethin' in the mail at least once a week. Sometimes it was new Ego batteries. Sometimes it was new Evod, MT3S or Protanks. Sometimes, it was new liquids to try.

Now that I'm doing DIY on my liquids, it's different flavoring concentrates or nic base.

I'm still several hundred dollars to the good.

Just since May, I've saved almost $1,000. I have maybe $600 invested in gear and liquids. It takes discipline, but it can be done.

Im fighting off the urge to not buy new gear and focus on finding the right juice for me...but...dang it i will get a variable voltage battery!

The way i figure it..i was spending around 150 a month on regular cigs. i just try not to go over that amount and i feel like im ahead. Not to mention my lungs appreciate it!

510t Starter kit, a couple of bottles of juice broke even at 8 days, an evod kit 4 more bottles of juice, a couple of empty needle tip bottles broke even again at day 18. I vape thru the cravings that are lessening in strength by the day. I'm not a big "stuff" person, what I have is keeping me off the analogs quite nicely. My next big adventure will be DIY or rebuilding my evod coil heads. The supplies for those, the occasional new tank or battery is all I see me spending for a long time. Knock on wood

After I got decent equipment the cost quickly dropped I spend $20 on juice every couple months and maybe $6 on coils every two months. I just bought an MVP Ver. 2 and I doubt I'll have to make any big vaping purchases anytime soon as I still have a spinner and two ego batteries in good working condition.
