The answer is yes. The coil does not last forever. Depending upon how you care for it and what you vape through it - it lasts anywhere from 3 - 21 days - this also depends upon your expectations from what you are vaping. If you are searching for the perfect vape - you probably need to change it more often... If you are just wanting your to satisfy your nicotine needs you can squeeze more out of it. Flavor usually starts to degrade after only a few days...

What is the normal ohms to buy? 1.8 or 1.5

Uh, for what topper? And what battery?

If a fixed voltage battery, or a mech, I'd suggest the 1.8. If you have a variable battery, either VV or VW, then the 1.5 would be ok, but the 1.8 or even in the 2.2 range, would give you greater ability to fine tune to your tastes.

Sorry I use a Protank Mini 2 on a VV ego battery, I think they only go as low as 1.8 ohms anyways,

I have the exact same setup and coil age varies. I vape a 50/50 mix (pretty heavily) and can get 5 days max out of a coil (usually less), There are a lot of variables that go into coil life and there is no exact figure. The 1.8 coils seem to last me longer than the 2.2's though.

I agree with johnwschnitz. Coils, generally, don't die quietly during the night, batteries maybe.
Have you tried turning up the voltage on your battery?
Protanks flood - coil over saturated with juice resulting in decreased vapor production and flavor. Gurgling is generally heard when taking a drag from the device.
Replacing the coil or blowing out the excess juice should get you going again.
You apparently have a VV battery, so the resistance of the coil should not be a concern.

I've never had a unit stop working completely. Usually I replace the coil when the flavor degrades to the point that I can no longer stand it.
Every time I have completely failed to get a hit from a unit it has been a battery issue.

This, for me at least. I know when to clean/replace my coils by the taste of my liquid and vapr production. Also if they get real bad I'll start getting gurgling.
