A little confused about when to clean an atty, why clean it ? and do you take out the little atty (grey thing) out of the tube before boiling it or whatever you do to clean it ?
What kind of atties? I have 510 atties and I had to clean mine, they were really really nasty all kinda of funny tasting because i was vaping all kind of juices on them. Yesterday i did the boil/bake thing thing on half of them, and on the the other half I soaked them in Crest Pro health mouth wash just because that was the method i normally use. Both batches came out good to go. with my 510 i just soak the whole thing

Someone else will probably be able to help you more, i never heard of taking any part but im new to this.
I clean mine every other night. I blow them out first and then just soak them in a cup of very hot water for about a half hour, then rinse them and blow them out a few times and set them aside to dry.
If they still reek of some strong smelling juice, I rinse and blow them out until the smell isn't as strong.
And, no, I don't take any parts OUT of the 510 atty.
If you're using cartomizers, then you would take off the white cap, then the rubber part, and then rinse and blow and set aside to dry. Not sure what you're using...

I saw that Hawk already answered the question about the bridge and not needing to take the atty apart. There are many ways to clean the atty's and we all have our favorite. I have tried several but I prefer soaking them in Vodka. I have a plastic jar with a lid and depending upon the use and flavors I am vaping, I will toss the atty and cart into the jar and fill with Vodka and let them soak overnight. Then, no need to rinse the atty, I blow them out and then set them aside to dry for 48 hours. I do rinse the carts and let them air dry as well. You will find that dark color juices and juice that is high in VG will gunk up an atty faster, IMHO. Good luck and Happy Vaping!
