The connector on the mod and atty as well as some drip tips are called 510. Where does 510 come from and what does it refer to? I have been vaping for three years now and I have alsways wondered why it is called 510.
It refers to this metric thread size
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C88E0I...TF8&colid=1175D1C0HPR2Y&coliid=I36EMO0KE50NLL
It's an odd ball, rarely used. One particular desinger at one ecig manufacturer specified it before standardization and it became the standard, unfortunately in my opinion.

We also have the eGo connection. It was so darned confusing when I first started.

It was either 510 or eGo threads. It took a picture of the difference to get it through mine, and many others, head.
Same here Robin. It took forever for me to understand what would work with what. I felt like there was a simple answer but didn't ask the question because I felt like folks would consider it a dumb question :D

5mm deep, 10mm in diameter ? just a guess

Well, it's a bit less than 5mm deep though that might be the nominal number, but the thread diameter is 7mm.

I think the 510 connection comes from the Joye 510 series ecigs. They became really popular in the early days and used the 7 x 0.5 thread at around 4.7mm deep that we call 510.

Then there is:

901 = 8mm x .75
408 series like RN4081 = 8mm x .75 (I think)
801 = 9mm x .75

And I think I also remember a 808 connection, but not sure.

Sheesh, it's been a while :lol:

It's a name, not technical specification. A Translation.
It carried from original device with the threads.
Think 5 1 0 ( a phrase )
I can't remember what it means, something inspiring.
Do a search or tag a native to explain Mandarin character expression and the meaning of numbers.

Am I making sense? Maybe someone can translate me right?

I have no love for the 510, even less for the eGo.

What would make it more palatable is if they actually adhered to the "standard" to the point where everything actually worked with each other 100% of the time.

So many times has a 510 been too long, short, loose, tight and even having a different thread pitch ! :blink:

Looks like there are Chinese chat codes that have been around for quite some time. 510 (wo yi lai) translates to "I'm already here" in English.

I don't mind the 510 connection type. Sure it takes some time but I've become accustomed to using it and now feel comfortable screwing and unscrewing my atties. There have only been a couple of instances where things didn't jive. That said, it would benefit us vapers to see some innovation here... Would love a sturdy "quick release" type of connection...

I agree 100%

Something along the lines of a bayonet style connector could have worked - standardised design and spring loaded on both mod & atomiser, never a gap would be seen ;)

Which incidentally is much like the top cap on the Kraken V2 - which I`ve never seen since and is a wasted design IMO as it`s far better than fine threading with friction, not to mention quicker.

The term "510 drip tip" seems to have become a thing. I despise that phrase because it's nonsensical as there is no relationship between a drip tip and 510 threading. Some people believe that if enough people use a term, even if it is incorrect, that it becomes fact (something regularly employed by the PEOTUS). I do not subscribe to this.
